I have a bc-12 stc'd to f19 I was wanting to know where I could find hardware needed to add the rear windows?

I think i really like the looks of the older style. mine is a 46 model and just looking on the web it seems everybody else also has a 46. I have just purchased the plane and not spent much time in it i need to seed what type of structure is left i suppose. i was really hoping to just cut the fabric and install with out re covering.

I bought a set for our bc12d from the factory about three years ago. I can get measurements for you if you like. I don't think they are available aftermarket any where. They are actually four pieces.Ryan Newell

Eric,
With help from Hank and Ryan, I made my own rear windows. I went to Home Depot and got a sheet of medium density hardboard about an inch thick which was suggested by Hank. I cut out the shape of the window with a pattern from Ryan. I screwed a strip of 2024-O aluminum into the buck, then screwed the plug part of the buck onto the outline of the window formed by the aluminum strip. The O temper aluminum bent over the edges like butter with a little light tapping of a small hammer. After taking it out of the buck, I did a little work with a hammer and dolly and they look great. I made two sizes, one to fit the plexiglass into. And the other is to act as a bezel after the glass goes in. The pics explain it a lot better than words. The last two pictures shows the almost finished product. It is the bezel part that will go towards the inside of the plane. I made it with a wider lip than the actual frame part that holds the glass.Last edited by Pearson; 12-30-2009, 11:23.Richard Pearson

This is what the 41 wood frames look like going in. I made mine from Poplar which is a weaker wood than the spruce laminated bands they used originally. I made them much more substantial than the original and WAY more substantial than the rotted out plywood door skin frames the last person used. I made them much wider than original for more strength from the weaker material and because I needed to install them on an already covered fuselage by sliding them between the fabric and tubes/stringers. It was NOT EASY and given the chance to do it again I WOULDN'T. I would wait and put them in at the next recover. It was a real pain. I was kind of forced into it because chunks of rotted plywood kept falling out and I had to open everything up to see where they were coming from. The only thing holding the D windows in was the screws through the fabric.
I will look for the pictures of the metal parts used in 45/46 and post them next.

OK, can't find the pictures of the 45/46 frames and I already took the parts back to the airport. May have to re-photo them next time out if anyone needs them. I DID come across some drawings I did of the frames for someone in the tribe. If I said I was sending them and you didn't get them drop me an email. I must have dropped the ball along the line somewhere. Work has been getting really wild lately and it must have gotten away from me.

DANG IT'S COLD IN THAT HANGAR!!!!
Got some pics of the early post war D frames. I also have traced tehm so tehy can be bent up. Hard part would be rolling the bead in where the screws go through to sandwich the exterior sheet metal and formed part around the Plexiglas.

My friend Andy Duke has made new D-window frames from scratch (details on his blog here)
The exterior piece is a simple flat sheet. The photo below shows my original ones (I made new). Simple to make & trim to suit your application.

Those are nicer than the 45 originals! I have an original set from my 45 and they are narrower than that and don't wrap around the "B" pillar for the door like those do (both the wider metal and wrap are good changes I assume they made between 45 and 46). Mine are also in two pieces so they will take to the bend in the fuselage skin easier. If you plan to make your own I would go with Bob Lees version or at least include the front portion wrap. I worry mine could get "air" under them and be torn off (but I worry a lot).
