  • Whispers of the North

I came to Alaska in 1980 planning to stay for one year. That was 29 years ago. A few years after I arrived in Alaska I found myself asking a friend what he knew about Taylorcraft airplanes. He raved on and on about what great 'performers' they were, and how they were "a lot of airplane for the money". (He had never actually owned one.) Based on his recommendation I bought a 1946 BC-12D and commenced learning to fly it. This video is closest I can come to explaining why...

Alaska images...all the intoxicating sights and sounds that borough deep into your soul and cause you to venture farther into the Northland. I first heard th...

Wow , old 71T looks real good. I am going to push this new factory to get in gear and do the F-19 again for starters, all parts, then upgrade. Thank you for the U-tube presentation. bye Forrest

Forrest...the F-19 would be a GREAT start! In my opinion...the best T-Craft ever. (Take it easy on me guys...I know, I know...YOUR model is the best ever. I said the same thing about my BC-12D when I had it! )
Mike...you are welcome anytime. Buy the ticket...come on up for the time of your life. You won't be disappointed.

Hank, Dave, et al...I think the "Drift" was good...The Taylorcrafts, from oldest to the newest...are the magic carpets for those of us fortunate enough to live here in Alaska...the need for parts and support are something we need, along with the rest of the Tribe. There are a lot of the F-19's up here as well as the earlier aircraft...hopefully something good and substantial will come of the latest turn in the Taylorcraft story. Dick

Gee...I was just trying to say I thought my F-19 was a really great airplane.
Way to go Bob...you dirty, rotten, no good hijacker!
              No worries...Happy New Year everyone!

I liked BOTH topics, just that we aren't seeing much of the "Whispers" any more and the title doesn't fit the conversation any more. I really like the pictures, movies and discussions of the guys really working Taylorcrafts "up north". I'm afraid we stole their topic and drove them off!
                Hank

And that isn't easy with those guys!

                    Bob,

Sometimes rambling is the best way to get everything out there.

I am going to start a new thread to continue this discussion. I have put in a request to Rob Lees about the hijacking of this thread. I don't know if he can transfer the posts regarding the Foundation from this thread to the new one or not.

So, with that in mind, let's stop posting about the Foundation and continue this discussion in the new thread. See you in the new thread "WHAT IF".

I'm going to lock this thread for 15 minutes so that I can move the "other" posts to Pearson's thread here.

                        OK, job done...

Ramblings on the new owners and/or what we would do if we had all the money in the world can be found here.

                              Hey Suzy,

How's it going? Unfortunately, we're not hiring yet...but at least we're not laying anybody off either! We're treading water as fast as we can!

I'm ready to start flying again...but the plane is a bit iced up right now and it's too cold to get it all off. Once it warms up a few degrees me and my shoulder will be ready to get out on skis again!

I think you need to plan another Iditarod trip this year. Remember...Darwin's will be REALLY crowded so you will be able to "blend in" better!
