  • Gas Tank filler neck grommet

I'm looking for a grommet (collar) to use on the gas filler neck (main tank) at the boot cowl on a BC12d.
Does anyone have a source suggestion, I hope?
Also, are there pictures of the trim handle assembly showing the indicator setup?

This was posted in the past.....

The WAG grommet does not do well with auto fuel, Try a GF22 by metro molded products. They are made from rubber and you can trim the inner supports on the bottom to give you more clearance for your fuel cap.

There is a John Deere Tractor Part No. somewhere on the forum. I thought I had it in my folder at home but will need to l get the number from the grommet. It will need a little trimming but it will work.

          Found it on the forum
John Deere has a grommet that works. Part number R82873 and is about $15.00. It has the word FUEL embossed in the rubber and may not be correct for a 100 point restoration.

Local John Deere Dealaer had it in stock.

There is an "official Taylorcraft seal" sold in hardware stores for sealing a toilet plumbing fitting (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). Just measure the filler tube diameter and ask for the toilet rubber parts, you will see it when you know the hole diameter. Stands up to auto fuel well and seals to the filler neck perfect. It even looks just like the originals in the photos. Once again, I think Gilbert may have just gone to the local hardware store when he needed a part. They should stock them right next to the axe handle protectors for the landing gear.
Amazing the alternate uses folks have found for Taylorcraft parts at the hardware store!

On a safety note, DO NOT USE HARDWARE STORE PARTS IN CRITICAL APPLICATIONS. If you are looking for fasteners for your upholstery you are good. Same for things that Taylor used car or hardware store parts on the original like knobs and door latches (the original pre-war door latches were screen door latches and the EXACT same part is still made by the same company!)

I bought the John Deere part (special order) for 29.00 CAD and found it didn't work at all. There would need to be much cutting and paring to try to make it fit. But I still have it new in the wrapper if you want it..

                  Hank,

Do you know the name of the company that still makes those screen
                  door latches?

Sounds right. Wish I had gotten this message this morning. I just got back from the airport and it's snowing now. The storm that is tearing up the east coast just arrived with snow here. If it's as bad as they are saying I may not be going to the airport for at least a few days.
The one in my doors requires about a 1/2 or 3/4 inch hole in the edge of the door and another for the square handle shaft that works teh door mechanism. The inside handle is covered with another of those hardware store faucet plates like the trim handle uses.
