Isn't the O-235 and O-290 almost as heavy as the O-320? I think the real problem is mounting any of the engines further forward. It puts more loads on the engine mount and causes balance problems.
The 235 is quite a bit lighter than a 320. The f-21 flies quite well on the 235. Balance was achieved with a scott 3200 tailwheel and 7 pound lead weight right in front of it on the f-21
Someone else is more than welcome to step in and do it before I get around to it, however. Just somebody should !($*% do it, and it don't really matter who. The parameters for this proposed "new" upgrade STC should be (in my humble opinion) :
85, 90, or 100 HP engine on short mount for best handling and least modifications
Options of no electrical, or newfangled lightweight starter/alternator
One or two wing tanks being optional. Fuel valves at the wing root end of the tank
-6 fuel line from gascolator to carburetor, with integral firesleeve
Medium sized baggage compartment, no major CG changes but bigger :sack"
Teflon/stainless ball main fuel valve at main tank outlet
Improved pitot wing tank vents at wing leading edge, eliminating complex cross-vent and plumbing rat's nest
Strengthen spar root and strut attach fittings per Model19
Spar root bushings per Model 19
Additional lower cowling air exit "gills" similar to Cessna and Beech for improved cooling
How hard/expensive would JUST and engine upgrade STC be to obtain, WITHOUT any gross weight increases? What I'm driving at is, would it be easier to do a number of those things people want separately or all at once?
Catch the fish, to make the money, to buy the bread, to gather the strength, to catch the fish...

no just a bigger headake to keep all the stc paperwork i just need one stc bigger motor and more weight
or like this there is the olds stc for 150hp in a cessna 150 no weight increase not a fun plane the w&b was bad always fling over weight now there is a 120 lb or so increase now it makes for a much better plane to fly
i plan on doing it to my dads 150 so i can have the 0200 for the tcart
Marv is right. Eventually, the new 0200 will be the answer. Going thru the drill of the update," maybe they want to sell it, maybe they are not home, maybe they just don't want to," is alot of crap courtesy of a totally out of sync FAA. The 85's and 90's ARE hard to get parts for. Time to move on! JC
Lots of complaints about C85 parts being hard to find. Come on guys, that's just not true. You can purchase new cylinders from Continental and ECI, and 21608 lifters from Aircraft Specialties. Both Aircraft Specialties and Don's Dream Machines offter the 0200 crankshaft STC for the C85...gives you new crank, rods, and pistons. Don's Dream Machines has an STC for using an 0200 case on C85's. Don can also convert a -12 case to a -8. You can build a legal C85 using most all 0200 parts, and if you use the 0200 crank STC you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the C85 and 0200. There are lots of used, servicable C85 parts around and a surprising number of new parts, I've got a NOS flanged cranshaft sitting in front of me.
If you want an 0200 for your Taylorcraft thats ok, just don't use the no C85 parts complaint as an excuse.

Have you priced the new O-200? I can get a O-360 from eci for 7K less. Tim
yes thank you who in there right mind would want to spend that kind of money on a 0200
other then that i have been thinking the new stc should have some thing like a swift t fwf since it so for an 0200 to 0320 think that would save a lot of time fabbing on an old part ??
Congratulations to Terry Bowden! And a great big "THANK YOU", for helping to preserve one of the most popular modifications of our beloved Taylorcraft.
With that being said, let me be the first to ask, Terry when will the O-200 variant of this STC be available? Do you still have that engineering data I sent you? The line starts here (behind me) gentlemen, cause I want one!
atta boy Terry , e-mail me at taylorcraft.neo.rr.com for the thoughts and comments from Bob Harer at the last about his thoughts on "all B Models" the penciled in portion of the drawings list. Did you get a list of all ser numbers that the STC has been issued for in the past. I have a bit of stuff here from the past..
