  • Any way to get a ride in a Taylorcraft?

    Greetings,

I'm currently working on a sport pilot certificate and love the older airplanes that happen to qualify. My problem is I've never had the opportunity to fly in any of these beauties. I live in south central Missouri and take lessons at St. Charles airport (3SQ) near St. Louis. I also travel to central Illinois fairly often. I'm wondering if there is anyone in or near who would be willing to give me a ride?

    thanks in advance,
    Patricia

    Hello Patricia,

I'm sure that there will be folk closer to you who respond...but if they don't, come to England, and we'll give you a flight here as our guest!

    Good luck with the flying!

I'm a little closer than Robert but still too far away. If you don't get a ride before you come to California when and if you ever do look me up on the forum and we will set up a ride. Riding with Robert in England might be more fun.

Come to Maine. And we can fly over the Maine's beautiful lakes, mountains and valleys. Good luck.

          Patricia,
I would be glad to take you for a ride in my 1941 BC12-65 DeLuxe, if you ever get to the Indianapolis area.

I know there are a few nice Taylorcrafts near Kansas City and Saint Louis. I have yet to EVER meet a Taylorcraft driver who wasn't ecstatic about showing how much fun a Taylorcraft is (unless you are really large or wide, and I'm talking about REALLY large and wide, I'm 6'3" and 215# and my instructor was about the same).
Be really careful about going for a ride. It's an addiction that hooks you with your first flight. You will be ruined for flying Cubs, Aeroncas, Stinsons and even Funks after flying a Taylrcraft. We are pretty rabid in our love of the best little low HP plane ever built.

If you ever get to south east Virginia I can get you a nice ride to see the Chesapeake Bay and outer banks!

Oh yea, if you join the Taylorcraft Tribe, you may have gotten the hint that you will suddenly have friends all over the world.

Yes, introducing a newbe to the Taylorcraft is always a joy. Yesterday I helped out in a EAA Young Eagles event -- all 7 of the young people I took up had smiles on their faces. Most thought the TCraft was the coolest on the field. A great experience all around.

There's bound to be an owner near you who would like to show you how great this aircraft is. Keep looking..

I'm really not hijacking this thread because I want Patricia to get her ride in one of the best airplanes ever built...but I had to share a couple of pictures of my 10 year old neighbor getting his first flight in a small plane last weekend...and on floats to boot! Good luck finding that ride Patricia. If you don't want to go to England you can come to Alaska...although England is closer!

                      Patricia,

Be extra careful flying with Rob. They fly on the wrong side over there.

Actually "we" drive on the right side ; they drive on the "correct" side....

Re: Any way to get a ride in a Taylorcraft?

I'm actually willing to fly on either side, just to be accommodating. That means either side of the airplane or either side of the Atlantic if I should be so lucky as to find myself in Europe.

Mostly I want to thank you all for being so kind and generous. It makes me want to find my own Taylorcraft just to be a "real" part of this group.

                          I'll keep looking and hoping.

Welcome to the group Patricia. When you go to central Illinois, what town is close by? I usually drive down from northern Illinois when I go because I have a car full of people, dog, and other stuff, but I grew up there and have family in the Decatur area. If the company I work for would let me fly myself when I travel for work, 3SQ would be a perfect airport for me to use when I visit that big aerospace company with locations in St. Charles and St. Louis.

                              Hi Mike,

I have family in the Springfield area. My daughter works in Decatur.

                              thanks,
