  • Need a tachometer 46 BC12D

    Hi everyone,

My tachometer has crapped out again so it is time for a new one. I have a Jet Electronics model #3310-00048 (3 1/8", counter-clockwise turn). I cannot seem to find a cross reference to a current manufacturer part number. Does anyone have any idea what I should use?

Engine on '46 BC12D A-65-8, engine tach drive turns counter-clockwise

I think this is comparable to a Mitchell RT-10 but want to be sure before I buy one.

Alternatively if someone has a working tach for sale I may be interested.

    Thanks,
    Brian

If they still make AC tachs it would be the only one I know that still had CC rotation. Do you need a Hobbs, or are you looking for original?

Do anyone make one that is a recording tach?

I have a box full of old Taylorcraft tachs (several different makes and models, all counter-clockwise). If you can you post a picture of yours I will check the box for one like it.

I bought a new counter clock wise Mitchell Tachometer appx five years ago. The cost was appx 200 bucks then. The only one that seemed the best match for the BC12-D is the Mitchell Tachometer that is recommended for the late model Aeronca Champ and Chief. The 7AC has the same engine (A-65 Continental) and same cruise RPM (2150). The one I bought measures engine time using an average cruise RPM of 2050 RPMs. My guess is that it considers 2150 cruise and lower tach settings as well including slow flight and touch and goes. The tach works great. The thing I like about the recording tach versus non-recording tach is that you have a better and more realistic idea about oil consumption and TBO because the tach time is the most accurate measurement regarding engine use due to being able to measure how many times the crankshaft turns. Hobbs or clock time does not give as accurate a measurement of engine use. In cruise the tach measures close to the clock time, Touch and goes and other maneuvers are appx 1.1 to 1.2 clock to tach times.
