  • accessory case

What do I have here. I got this case attached to an A-65. It looks like the usual accessory case But it is solid bronze(?). Or maybe brass. It is really heavy, has the name Alcoa and a part number cast on the inside. It is also fitted with the usual oil pump. I talked to the people at Divco (they redo acc. cases) and they said that they had never heard or seen such a case.

Any ideas, It is heavy enough to be a Chicago llife jacket.

    Re: accessory case

It is a late production -8 rear case probably off a C90-8 that is aluminum instead of magnesium. The gold color is oil staining of the casting.

You are probably right. The cover weighs 5 lbs. and is comperable to the larger cover for the starter cover which is aluminum. However I was not able to scrape through the bronze color. The outside of the case where there were witness marks from the washers did not show bronze, but tooling marks which appear to be recent show bronze.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'll hang it on the wall for effect.

It may also be anodized. Great corrosion protection and can be almost any color and hard as nails.

I have a rear case just like it. My AI says they are as good if not better than the Mag. ones.
