  • Shameless Self-Promotion... again !

Please forgive the non-Tcraft intrusion into a forum that has little to do with this directly... but I'm sure SOME of you know people who have airplanes that this affects. I've just completed the FAA STC process from initial idea to awarded STC in less than four months... what a ride! The website content for this product is up but still graphically under construction. But the guts are there. Anyone who knows somebody with a manual flap Cessna or PA series piper (Super Cub thru Milkstool) please turn them on to this... I'm trying to "just say NO to poverty"

    For Immediate Release

STC for EZ Flap Cessna 100 Manual Flap Handle Assist Device

Los Angeles, CA August 8, 2009 – The FAA has issued STC SA-02246LA for the “EZ Flap” flap handle extension device on Cessna 170 through 185 manually operated flaps. The device allows pilots to extend and retract the flaps without loosening their shoulder harness or taking their focus off of flying the airplane.

Inventor Bill Berle is enthusiastic about the new product, saying; “ For 60 years, pilots of manual flap Cessnas had to lean forward almost into the instrument panel and the control yoke, to reach down for the flap handle. Most people can’t even see out of the airplane while they’re fishing around for the flaps. Anyone using a properly tightened standard shoulder harnesses simply cannot reach the flaps at all, and is forced to loosen the harness during the most dangerous phase of the flight. EZ Flap solves that problem once and for all, with 100% fail-safe security.”

The EZ Flap device installs onto the existing flap handle in 30 minutes with no disassembly or de-rigging, and is completely removable. The only airframe modification is two 6-32 threaded holes. The EZ Flap STC for the Piper Pa-18 Super Cub and PA-22 is nearing completion in August. Trademark and patents pending. For more information visit http://www.ezflaphandle.com or call 818-634-9762.

I could tell you, but, uhhh... (sound of .45 ACP slide clicking)

By hitting the "clever button" a couple of times, I got it down to one moving part. A cylindrical slug moves inside the main tube. A cable is clamped into the slug on one end and stop-sleeved against a tab on the Cessna button. It works because there's very little force required to release the button. If there were any force required I'd have had to go back and use the original idea of bellcranks and pushrods and pawls and the like.

Well guys, I might have just stepped in it pretty good this time... I just test-fit my EZ Flap prototype on a PA-28 Cherokee and found that it is needed on that airplane too. Wish me luck, I'm adding the PA-18, PA-22, and PA-28 to the approved model list. Maybe I'll bump into one of you down at the Ferrari dealership

                    Re: Shameless Self-Promotion... again !

It has been made all too clear to me that the original photographs featuring an ugly airplane mechanic's greasy hand and a bare aluminum aircraft floor are somehow not attractive from a marketing perspective. I cannot imagine why.

However, thanks to the boundless generosity of a personal friend of mine, the following photos were taken yesterday and uploaded to my website and online sales materials today.

Now I can't possibly imagine anyone paying any more attention to this device with these photos as opposed to the technically accurate and well framed ones I had previously... but just maybe there's something I'm not understanding here. What do you guys think?

                          Re: Shameless Self-Promotion... again !

Thank you again to those who have showed positive support for my new EZ Flap Manual Flap Handle Extension device. I am pleased to say that I passed my PMA inspection this morning, for all four areas of inspection...manufacturing facility, conformity inspection, records/paperwork, and quality control.

FAA-MIDO advises me that my PMA number and official letter will be forthcoming within a few days, and that I can accept orders now with their blessing, with the understanding the product will be shipped out once I have the PMA approval in hand.

Anyone who knows someone with a manual flap Cessna or Piper is encouraged to put them in contact with me. Thanks.

My home airport is less than 5 miles from where the fires started, and is the main LA County heli-attack fire base. The airport has nearly been closed for visibility several times. The local air quality is very poor these days. It's flyable most of the time but as they say... "VFR flight not recommended".
