A friend of mine is finishing up his beautiful 41 BC12. My 46 BC12 D has three screw attach points for the bungee covers . On his there appears to be only two. The one on the inside of the landing gear past where the cords wrap around does not seem to exist like the one on my BC12D. There is a small tab but it is unlike the ones on my BC12D with a screw hole in them. Any insight into the difference?

Drill a hole into the tab, put a clip on it, drill corresponding hole in cover, and screw it down. Git er dun! :-)

If he doesn't have the covers they are different also--pretty much flat instead of formed because the cords don't hang past the bottom of the fuselage--if you need them I can measure mine and send you some information-they are very simple compared to the post wars and easy to make.

The pre-war covers are VERY simple. I have tapped a few sets out over an MDF form and if you are careful at the radiused corners to keep the wrinkles out, look just like the ones hydro pressed from the factory. All you really need is a jig saw, a chunk of MDF or old counter top and a paper pattern of an original cover. You use the screw holes to hold the metal blank in place on the MDF.

Just a hint to make the process easier, cut a second piece of MDF and sandwich the aluminum blank between them while you tap down the edges. The cover stays nice and flat that way.

Do the pre war covers have 2 or three screws in each cover? I will take a picture of his set up and post it soom. Thanks

Deluxe covers are unique to the Deluxe. Very simple to make as mentioned. All others use the bulged covers.

Her are some pics. of my friends 41 T-craft. If you look close you will see that there is a small tab on the inside of the gear leg that is not large enough for a screw. I think these covers are for the Post war . Any comments on the correct cover is appreciated? What should the Pre war look like and how many screws are used to attach it.

very nice taylorcraft. Small tab is suppose to have a #6 screw hole with tinnerman clip. covers are correct for the belly shown

If we put a screw in that hole in that tab (it is much smaller than the one on my BC12D which faces the other way) the screw will be right up against the bungee cord. Also the mystery is why does that tab not have a hole in it already?

Very short PK screw. Could be it the tab had been replaced and never drilled.

My tabs had been bent in when I replaced my covers. There was no screw into that tab (probably couldn't reach the tab with the screw). When I bent the tab back out the screw (a short PK type with the point ground off- don't tell on me) went in to the Tinnerman nut fine.

I was thinking that the tabs should be this way rather than over the chords, but had not had a chance to look at a gear to verify so I never posted
