    Re: Keyed Axle washers

Thanks for sending the washers. They fit just fine. I have been out of town and just had a chance to try them. As they say, the check is in the mail.

    Thanks again.

See the buy/sell section here in the forum for an update.

I sent out the first batch this week. I'd like to get some feedback from the guinea pigs before I mail any more:

    Do they fit?

Did you get charged extra postage?

Did the USPS manage to bend .090 4130 in an envelope? Did the washers come out of the packaging?

I'm off to work again tomorrow and I'll be away from my workshop until next Monday. Hopefully I can get half a dozen plated tomorrow and ready to go for next week. When I have some done, I'll post here and interested parties can send me a PM with shipping info. I'll check into USPS options next week, too.

The washers are beautiful. How can I get a set? Also I noticed you were looking for .095. I had this same problem when producing new wing butt fitting for my 85hp STC. I found that the .100 4130 that was produces was actually closer to .095. which is wat the Harer STC caled for. Something about nominal sizeing in the metal business.

Don't forget to leave some work for us to do in case our mechanics want to show them as "owner produced". We need to do a drawing or the QA on the parts (probably do a material hardness test and dimensional check). They look so good I doubt we will get a chance to do any of the actual manufacture.

They are beautiful! As for owner produced, if they come as cut out, there will be work needed to be done before use, i.e. dimension check, grind/sand off sharp edges, etc. I think we have a winner here, lets do what is necessary to make sure all who need a set can get them. I think I want two sets myself! :yahoo:

Picked these up today. I made the AutoCad file from the dimensions posted here, so they should be good, but I'll check on my BL-65 before I send any out. I'll blast the first batch and stick them in the plating tank tomorrow. This isn't going to be fast, but it'll be steady.

I also hope to mold the sand for a casting for a hubcap press tomorrow.

    Big day.

Sure hope I don't get distracted. Damn the ADD.

For those of you having parts made at a local metal fab shop, unless they are your freinds I wouldn't tell them that they are for an airplane. Our insurance company excludes liability coverage for any parts made for aircraft! In order to obtain insurance we would need a large volume of aircraft parts manufacturering to make it worth while. I just stick to making my own parts either on one of our press brakes, shears or laser!!!

That would work, Hank. I did that to get my new front butt fitting side plates down to the correct thickness.
