    Re: W&B calculations

I just used the weights that I had from what was in the log books My empty weight CG was 19.30. and my weight was 785#.

All I did was keep changing the weights until I had 785 and 19.30 on your schedule. I found where I went wrong. I thought I was supposed to put fuel in on the top calculator. Now I get the right numbers. I will do a weight & Balance on the plane soon.

I cannot get to far forward CG. I would have to be less than 50#.

The best I can do for the most weight and in balance is 155 pilot and 175# on the copilot floor. Not at all like the Cherokee six that I could just throw anything I wanted in and head out.

    The program works great. Thanks

      Re: W&B calculations

If your empty weight cg was 19.30, then you've been (dare I say) illegal for all that time (although your actual weight of 785 is reasonable. Possibly an error by the person who weighed it back then...was 785 the total weight, or just the weight on the main wheels?).

      The aft limit is 17.9 for BC12D, BC-12D1, BC12-65 & BC12D-85 models; 18.5 for BC and BC-65 models. TCDS A-696 refers.

The nice thing about the Taylorcraft W&B is that if you get your empty weight cg within limits, it can't go out of limits in service as long as you don't go over your gross weight (there are two cg ranges; one empty weight and one in-service...check the TCDS for details).

If in doubt, re-weigh again, as it looks like you will do. If you have access to scales, it takes about an hour.

p.s. The Cherry 6 is a great aeroplane. As you say, load it up and go. Cruise at 120kts (it will do more, but 120 makes the calculations easier...2 miles a minute). It won't land on beaches & short strips, though!

I don't think it has been illegal you just have to do the math before you Take Off.

              Rob,

I thought I would do a weight and balance on my BC-12D and wanted to use your spreadsheet. However, the link still shows imperial gallons, am I using the wrong link? Thank you!
