Re: Made an interesting video in the Tcraft today

Seems like Taylorcrafts have changed a lot of lives for the better. I would bet CG never thought he would have so much impact on so many lives for so long.
I have to make up a video camera for my plane. At least a mount on the hat shelf looking over my shoulder out the windshield. Wouldn't that be GREAT for student instruction! To be able to go back and review the lesson from the cockpit view after the session would REALLY let the lessons sink in. Also a lot of fun to re-watch lessons on those cold overcast days we can't fly.

Make sure you wear that silly Fedora hat like the original ads show, have a good looking girl next to you, and of course the extra foot of shoulder room and headroom that the advertising artwork implies

It's easy to get that effect. You leave the doors open and sit with one cheek each out the door. Looks nice and roomy then! Remember too it isn't just the hat, got to have the coat and tie too.
What i would really like is a nice 41 Studebaker in the background.

How the heck did they manage to get those shots of the girl sitting on the boot cowl? did everyone before the war weigh under 75#?

Yep! I started a new endeavor this summer designing and manufacturing camera gimbals for RC aircraft & robots. I'm working on scaling down one of my 2 axis gimbals and plan to mount it to the strut of the Tcraft as soon as it's back in the air... 3-4 weeks hopefully.

Planning on shooting HD video and stills. In about 3 months I should have an IMU stabilized gimbal for super smooth shots.

Here's one of my gimbals I intend to scale down & modify

Chris that is the same Nikon I have D40X 10 mgpix. Are you able to remote it to the inside. I know they have units that control it from the laptop. I have not looked into it yet though. I work on and off for a newspaper and they would love plane shots.

Thanks for the gimbal mount! I'm waiting for the Inspector to come sign off on it...

Man, I hope you guys have at least an 85 in there if you're planning on using that big mount and camera! Better mount it on the centerline or you'll be flying in circles!!

I have flown into Rolla a couple times passing through. There was a fairly nice L-2 based there at one time. Been 3 years ago since the last time i was there.

Yup, that was my friend Bill's L-2. That's the one I worked on and flew quite a lot. He sold it earlier this year and it went to North Carolina I believe. Maybe the owner will find their way here some time.
