  • Lloyd Fries - N96718

    Hey Lloyd Fries,

You own Tcraft N96718 I think. I've decided to give away all of my Sport Aviation mags from 1978, and I've been going through them one last time and came across an article in the 8/82 issue that featured a Tcraft that was used for a honeymoon trip. Curiosity got the best of me about the status of the plane and I did an N number search to see where it was these days. I noticed the owner's name looked familiar from this list. Would you like this issue? It's a four page article with some good photos. A student pilot that answered my free ad on Craig's list is coming to pick them all up on Saturday. I'll save this one for you and mail it if you're interested, let me lnow. I know I've got the issue with Tom Baker's award winner on the cover also. Anything I find that features a Taylorcraft I'll hang on to.

    Mike,

As a little side note, that plane that Tom Baker restored was flown by both of my parents in the 40's. I have both of their logbooks showing that 'N' number. Mom is still around at 82 and still likes to go flying with me when she gets the chance.
    Cheers,
    Marty

As another little side note, Lloyd was very kind in taking me flying in his Taylorcraft back in 1999 when I was still wet behind the ears, and he introduced me to flying in the USA.

Step forward 9 years, and he again very kindly took one of my fellow UK Taylorcraft owners flying just a month or so ago.

So Lloyd goes in my "hall of fame" as a great ambassador of international relations and all round good guy.

Mike I would love to have the addition. I met the Honeymoners at an airshow
in Madera CA shortly after I purchased 96718. They sent me photocopies of the article. Having the magazine would be great. As a side note my youngest son Marc and his bride used 96718 to transport them on their Honeymoon.
My address is 1621 S Johnson Visalia, CA 93277. I'll gladly reimburse you for any postage and time.
Thanks Rob for the comments. I'm sure I enjoyed taking those flights as much as you and Clare. I also learned what a Cheeky request was. Yours wasn't

Lloyd, happy to send you the magazine, no worries... I'll get it in the mail soon, probably on Monday. That's a great note also about your son and his wife taking the same plane on their honeymoon all these years later too.

A couple more magazines that I saved out also:

            Marty,

I still have the Vintage magazine from March 2006 that has the article about you becoming the first Sport Pilot in Illinois. You probably have that, but would you like another? I'll mail it to you if you do.

            Jim Herpst,

Do you want the Vintage magazine from May 2001 that has the NC94984 article? Let me know, I'll mail it if you do.

              Mike,

Sure, send it my way. Also, and I can understand if you want to keep it, the article with the Baker's Taylorcraft would be neat to show my mom. PLEASE, do not feel obligated on that one, though. My address is: 2009 Carrington Court, Springfield, IL 62704.
              Cheers,
              Marty

                  Lloyd,

Do you ever go to the Taylorcraft fly-in at Columbia, CA? It is usually held on or near Mothers Day.

                      Tom,

I can never keep up with which one is which.

Mike, I was talking about the ''41 BL, (I think), that was blue and yellow. If it is the other one I don't need that one.

                      Thanks Tom and Mike.
                      Cheers,
                      Marty

I guess I should have been clearer on that one guys. Tom is right Marty, it's the cream and red '41 that's on the cover. Maybe Tom want's that one?
