  • Tailwheel Spring

I am missing the top leaf in my tailwheel spring. Would anyone have such a part laying around you would like to sell?

Hate to break the bad news to you but you are missing more than a spring. That isn't the right spring set for a Taylorcraft. You need a whole new set. What you have is an Aeronca 7AC or 11AC tail spring. The Taylorcraft spring doesn't have a rivet holding the parts together. A Taylorcraft spring is 1 1/2" wide with a 3/8" hole at the front that goes thorugh the top spring, a spacer and the bottom spring. The strap at the tail post holds all 3 springs in place and the tail wheel bracket bolts through the bottom and middle springs ONLY. The top spring does NOT come all the way back to the bracket and the middle spring does NOT go all the way forward to the fuselage bolt. By the way, there is a bushing in the fuselage that the bolt goes through that tends to fall out and get lost. DON'T forget to make sure it is back in there before you put everything back together.
I think I have a picture of the correct configuration if you want to email me at [email protected]

Forrest may have a set of springs he can sell you, I bought one from him several weeks ago. Unfortunately, both Aircraft Spruce and Univair are out of stock.

          Tail wheel spring

Thanks guys. You can always count on this group for good info.

I have another set of springs but for some reason I don't remember them looking like the photo Rob sent. I can only hope. I will check tonight.

            tail springs

I had three sets here. All gone I just order from who ever has them at the time. Spruce had them for $90.00 & Wag-Aero at $110.00 plus so shop around.
