Sarah Palin is a pilot!

With the news that the Republicans have selected Sarah Palin (Alaska Govenor) for the Vice President slot it was interesting to see that she is a pilot and owns a float plane. Anyone know if it might be a Taylorcraft? If not, what kind of plane does she fly and what are her positions on general aviation issues.

She owns a Super Cub. Sounds like good people...born and raised in AK, good family values, has a few kids, the youngest is just little one, everything I've heard over on SC.org is good....the AK people seem to like her.
No matter what, she's better (in my opinion...don't need to go there) than the other side's choice!

OK, so it looks like she was actually born in Idaho, but she is Alaskan through and through now. Everything I read about her indicates she is a real straight arrow (she may not agree with you, but she stands by her beliefs and you know what you are getting). How REFRESHING! A politician that doesn't sound like a politician!
She hunts, fishes, races snowmobiles, plays basketball, is a life member of the NRA, cut her own salary as a mayor, turned in her own party members for ethics violations, turned down federal money for the Gravina bridge (the bridge to nowhere, when she said "Alaska needed to be self sufficient", can't do that if you are being stupid with state money, even if the feds want to spend their part).
All in all she sounds like a gem.
Now if I could just get past that "Piper" part. If it was a Taylorcraft I would be totally sold! WHAT was she THINKING!

Idaho....well, we can't hold that against her Hank. I thought they'd said AK..... but yeah, she sounds quite different from the usual politician.....
As far as the Piper thing.... she's just showing "holes" in her education. haha

Well this is my 2 cents worth, I am glad to be a Republican in Alaska! She has the Highest approval rate as govenor as anybody in the nation. The last I saw it was 86%. I may not agree with everyone of her opinion, I still think that John McCain just leveled the playing field and took the wind out of Obama's sails. Since this morning, Everyone is talking about Sarah and not Obama....

If she takes John M. up in her plane, it would be fun to see a Super Cub listed as Air Force 1! (Actually I think the presidential helicopter is "Marine 1" or "Coast Guard 1" when carrying the President, and the S-3 was called "Navy 1" when Bush went to the carrier, so what would a Piper in Alaska be? "FUN 1"!?!?!).
I found their Piper (a PA-18-150) in the FAA registry, registered to Todd Palin. If they need fighter escort in Alaska I would suggest calling the "Dawn Patrol" guys in Kansas City with their Nieuports. Really patriotic group of guys and NO WAY an F-16 is staying with a Super Cub.
Never though I would see a GA Pilot so close to the top of the executive branch. GO SARAH (and get some Taylorcraft time so you can show Todd how much more fun a "T" is than a Piper).

Somthing else I bet you all don't know is that Johna McCain's wife is also a private pilot with several hours in her log book. She hasn't flown herself in a while due to some health and medical issues but,she's one of us too.

Being an Alaskan, I must chime in...this woman is 'the real deal'. I hoped she would run for Governor when she was mayor of Wasilla, and to see her become the VP candidate is almost to good to be true. What you see is what you get with Sarah, and she doesn't pull any punches. As you get to know her and her record you will see she makes her decisions based on what she thinks is right, and not the 'party line'. Whether you agree with her or not, you have to respect her convictions because they are genuine. She is truly a breath of fresh air on the political scene. I'm willing to overlook the 'Super Cub' faux paus as it is a common malady here in Alaska...something about wanting to haul the ENTIRE moose off the 500ft gravel bar on the river instead of making 3 trips in the T-Craft.

OK...I know this isn't a political forum and I want it to stay that way! I just thought you might want to hear from someone who has watched Sarah Palin's career up close for the past 13 years or so. One final note...this would be a terrific voice for General Aviation. She and her husband live it...just like us.

Did you know that Dick Chaney bought a home in St. Michaels Maryland as a place to "unwind", and the FAA has a permanent "temporary" flight restriction (TFR) in that area?

That isn't fair. It was one of my favorite destinations for $100 seaplane hamburger.

Maybe some new blood in the White House will help. GEEZ--maybe we could make St Mike's a seaplane base in case she gets homesick!!!!!!!!

By the way, the Tcraft would make those three trips in less time than the Cub would make one.

A search of the FAA database showed no record of a Sarah Palin possessing any certificates of any kind.
