I am finally getting to putting my landing gear on my F-19 restoration project and wonder where I can get the rubber wear pieces that were on my airframe's bungee surfaces? Jack

do a forum search on bungee bumpers or axe handle protectors to find the details

yep.. axe handle savers. I got mine at Ace Hardware. Get two of them though... I got only one at first and cut it in half and it wasn't long enough to fit. Bought two more and cut the end off of each and they are long enough now.

I put the axe handle savers on my '40 BC-65 rebuild and they work great. I think they have even helped some not so good landings look OK.

Heaven forbid any {IA's/A&P's/whatever they are called this month} look at this thread! Forrest would be throwing a wobbly!

          I used just the same.

There was an ANCIENT Taylorcraft once owned by Roscoe Turner where I used to have my plane. It had been stuffed in the back of the a hangar and was LOADED with original parts (don't get excited guys, it was sold a long time ago to a guy in North Carolina for restoration. Anybody know who has it now?).
Anyway, as I remember, it had original door upholstery, an original battery box in front of the seat, multi section flat windshield and windscreens, AND a set of axe handle protectors that even had the original molded in markings that were the same as the ones for sale at the local hardware store. I would bet that Taylor bought the darned things from HIS local hardware store!

                    Re: landing gear bungee

Actually, it was in pretty terrible shape. What really torqued me off was that the owner said it had the ratty old fabric on it when he bought it with "Gilmore Oil" logos. Would have been great to have the original color scheme, but he tore all the fabric off decades ago and trashed it.
How much history is in land fills because the guy holding it didn't see how valuable it was.
