What tension should there be on the aileron cables?
I have some slack in the system, The control wheel moves a little before the the cable tighen I dont like what, my annual is comming up in October so I like to know. If a cable can come off a pully Bad Things can happen!

    Re: Aileron Cable tension

A lot of folks keep their aileron cables too tight. It's a fairly complex circuit, in order to keep all the cables inside the structure, so there a lot of sharp bends in the circuit with loads of room for backlash.

I personally find that if they are just a little slack, then the control wheel movement is "just right". But they mustn't be too slack, else you will not get full aileron deflection.

I can't quantify what is "just right"...practice, I guess. Pushing up-and-down on the aileron trailing edge is the easiest way to judge. It would be interesting to measure the aileron deflection with full control wheel deflection, to see if the ailerons reach the required angle (23 deg or 25 deg, dependent upon model).

Been there, done that! WE showed the correct way here at the fly-in . I can repeat at OSH. in flight the ailerons line up with trailing edge, on ground they droop 1/4 to 1/2 in ..... Have someone, or use a clamp to line up one aileron with a trailing edge. Then go to the other aileron, it only takes a wee bit of pressure with one finger to get it to line up with that side trailing edge... this is at 59 degrees of course.... they tighten up when cold, droop more when hot.....

Will EAA be video taping the forums this year?

Never heard about that , I have all the sound recording from all the years. You can still buy them all from the fellow that records them .

There was a video camera set up and recording in the tents when I gave my NASA forums at AirVenture and Sun-N-Fun, but it could have been done by the NASA PAO guys and not EAA. Maybe someone with a tripod and camera could do ours on video for the foundation. Audio only doesn't really cut it for a lot of the "visual" stuff we talk about. Does the audio guy have an exclusive agreement with EAA or anything?

EAA allows one vendor to do this see http://www.forums4.us/ .
I agree , some years we had video about some presentations. My compuer stuff could be made avaialble. Rob Lees is doing a good presentation at the forumn. NASA we are not maybe some day. The fantastic Friday is a one of a kind. Never will be done again (and sold)!
