  • Maintenance test flight complete

Well I got to fly tonight finally since last Oct 17th. I have to lengthen the rear strut of the rt wing 1 turn and I am going to shorten the lt wing 1/2 turn, that should get her flying level. I dont like my 1 piece venturi updated carb, it feels rougher than the old one piece carb that I had on. Maybe I will get used to it. I did some stalls with just me and full fuel, I used to stall at 42 with a definate break, now I can hang at 34-35 at the same configuration. I still need to install the wing root farings but I did not have any leaks that I could find. When I finish getting all of the farings back on and clean off the overspray from the windshield,I will try another flight. WOOO HOOOO

Depending on the carburator and engine you might need a new nozzle too. Tom

Way to go on getting back in the air again. I know just how you feel as mine was down for many months also.

You are the second person that I have heard recently here mention flying without the wing root fairings installed.
The numbers you get rather amaze me compared to my experience with the first BC12D that I owned.
It came without the fairings and I flew it that way a few times.
What I noticed was that the stall speed was about 50 or so without and later when I installed them it went down to 38. Flying without I noticed that he tail was shaking and moving around like it was always in turbulent airflow.
The change in the behavior of the aircraft was so significant that I never did it again with any other aircraft. I just assumed that because of my inexperience I had done something that was at least stupid and maybe even dangerous.
Amazing the extreme difference in results on different aircraft.

My airspeed is in Knots, not MPH. Since most charts are in Kts I kept the airspeed indicator in KTS. I will get the farings installed this weekend, the last time I flew without them it flew fine. Tim

It has the new nozzle, if I think it is a problem, I will reinstall the 2 piece venturi and corresponding nozzle. Tim
