Back on the old board someone posted artwork for three different 'Taylorcraft' logos that had graced the tails of our birds during various periods over the years. Now my short term memory is shot, but my long term memory tells me it was Hank??? Was it? If not, who? Also, can anyone verify the correct Taylorcraft logo for a B model in early 1939. I'm thinking from perusing Chet's book that it may be the wingless 'TaylorcrafT' with the large drop bottom T's on either end....How about letter sizing? While we are back at that end of the plane how about the correct size for the 'NC' and the #s? 6"? Thanks for any info. Reposting of the artwork would be appreciated. Howard

Re: 'TAYLORCRAFT' Logo Variants?? Hank??
Standard paint depends on what you have deluxe etc... Others on here are more knowledgable than I on this with actual paint chips and samples. On our BC12D metallic blue paint is everywhere as I took it apart and stripped paint and I understand that the basic training ships were blue with silver wings? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I also have the drawings someone posted saved to my computer at hame and could repost them if wanted.

Re: 'TAYLORCRAFT' Logo Variants?? Hank??
Howard and Tribe,
Go to Moody Aerographics in Belview, FL. They have all or most of the logo variants for the Tcraft as well as many other planes. I have purchased a couple of stick-on stencils for my restoration. They even made a decal for my Lewis prop from a photo. Great folks to deal with.

Re: 'TAYLORCRAFT' Logo Variants?? Hank??
Yea, it was me. I have the full size drawings packed away in my Taylorcraft box for each of the different tail logos. I found a great decal printing company in Norfolk VA who did a nice set of "single wing" logos for my 41 tail in vinyl masks so I could paint the logos in the same paint color as the trim.
Bad news was the paint bled under the masks and made a mess of the tail even with a coat of clear over the masks to seal them. I ended up going in with a 0000 brush and hand painting the logos. I have some pictures on another computer and will try and post them.
I'm knee deep in a new project at work so it may be a while before I can unpack the drawings. Going to the moon takes a bit more time than past projects. I'm in Heaven (even if it is putting ridiculous delays in getting the "T" back in the air).

Re: 'TAYLORCRAFT' Logo Variants?? Hank??
Thanks Buell, Glen and Hank. Have a guy here in the RC club that owns a graphics co. Said he could do the stripes and any letters and #s. I'll use Buells artwork to get this guy set up. I'll let you all know what the pricing comes out to. Thanks again HowardLast edited by Howard Wilson; 05-17-2008, 05:28.20442

Thanks for the pic Mike. That's the drop bottom T logo I was thinking about. What should be different in the location?? 20407 - 20442 = 35 planes apart... HowardLast edited by Howard Wilson; 05-17-2008, 05:27.20442

Howard,
Ask 5 people and you will get 5 different answers as to location. My personal belief is that this was much less of an precise art than modern restorers make it out to be. Going off several pics in Chet's book, the logo is more centered in the vertical fin. There are noteable differences in pictures that can only be assumed to be factory pics or original markings. Wish I had the book in front of me right now..... but I don't.MIKE CUSHWAY

Yeah Mike, I'm looking at the book and it seems that the same goes for the striping. Could be the difference between deluxe and standard but: Page 81 - two interior shots with edges of door frames in view, the striping on the standard brackets the angle in the door frame, while the deluxe's top stripe is just grazing the bottom of the angle. The pic on page 74 shows what I think is a deluxe with an accent color on the stripe and it too stays under the angle. hmmm?20442
