  • Aileron Control System Pulleys

    Hello All
I recently got a F-19 flying that suffered an landing accident 2 years ago that broke the fuselage in half. It flys well however one concern: when I tighten up the Aileron Control Cables enough to remove the sag it is like driving a truck. Has anyone tried to replace the bushing style Control Cable Pulleys with ball bearing types? I went to McFarland’s web site and the 3-inch pulleys they manufacture have 1/4" bore in the bearing, all the T-cart pulleys are 3/16." I could easily make bushings to make up the difference however I believe that would be a “altering” the type design thus a 337 would be required. In the current climate I am not to sure how the FAA would view that.

The cables are supposed to be loose, its not a cessna or piper, so the rigging is different. You can get the correct pulleys from both the Taylorcraft factory and the Don Luscombe society sells them on barnstormers. The pulleys for other aircraft are too thick, the T-craft pully is specially built by Ralmark for our aircraft. Been there and dont that route before. I wound up buying 16 ball bearing pulleys and I love them. They are very fragile so be careful when installing them. Dont forget to use cotterpin bolts and not nylocks. Tim

I agree. Too many aileron cable runs are set up so tight, like a young lass I once knew. On some occasions, a bit of slackness makes things run a bit smoother.
