Has anyone crossed the US border lately without a transponder? Just curious as to how many of us out there have had problems with the TSA requirements.....Tim

        Re: US border crossing rules

I got the aopa/copa guide to cross border operations. It should cover everything. There is a transponder exemption process.

Follow this link for the whole guide. It is 3.4 mb.

        From the guide:

        Transponders & Waivers

A Mode A and C transponder is currently required by the US government to cross the US border in either direction, inbound or outbound. You must also be in communication with a US ATC agency before crossing the border. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in interception.

Consult the latest US NOTAMS at http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/tfr_resources.html for up to date information.

If you do not have a transponder you will need to apply to the US Transportation Security Agency (TSA) for a waiver. You can find the application form for the waiver at http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/newsite...21waivers.html . Allow a few weeks before your flight for your waiver to be issued.

Hope this helps. Let me know if the download does not work.

Does this still apply between Alaska and Canada? When did they put in the radar? Last I heard it was still a no radar operation. Kinda silly squaking and none there to hear you. Sounds like my wife. (you tell her I said this and I'll deny it all the way to the doghouse squaking 7700).

The FSS in Glacier park told me that they are using AWACS to patrol the border, the briefer told me a story about a cub that was intercepted crossing the border and AWACS called from somewhere in California about it not squawking. Tim
