Mary and I will meet up with those of you at Brodhead on Sat. p.m. We'll be in the motorhome and will park by the trees. It is a white Damon Daybreak and Iowa license plate is NO ETOA. Hope to meet all of you.

        Eric,

When are you arriving Brodhead? I am planning to fly one of Steve Krogs cubs down from Hartford Saturday mid-morning. I would really like top get a hop in 20426. I have yet to fly in a pre-war.

It is possible that Brodhead won't have fuel, so I suugest folks flying in fuel up at their previous stop.

Monroe, WI is just west of Broadhead and they have a self pump arrangement. Typically their fuel is very reasonable.

I'm here, not many campers yet but a lot of places stakedout. Row 39 south of Lindberg, yellowstone camper green and white ford pickup. Beer is cold stop by. George

                      Re: Taylorcraft to Oshkosh

Below is the message I really hate to post! Many problems here, NO health issues with my immediate family , it is older folks around us. I will miss OSH this year Robert Lees will handle the Foundation table, hopefully many members can just sit, talk, and enjoy.

July 27th, 2008: Message for all Foundation members at AirVenture:

Robert : This message should be posted at the Vintage Type Club Taylorcraft Foundation table and read at the forum.

Do too many circumstances here in Alliance, Ohio, family health, no one to run airport this next week, and the fact that a Township trustee passed away. I have applied for his position and need to stick around this next week for procedural matters.

At noon on Friday, July 25th, the decision was made to stay home from Air Venture. There have been many ships going west, stopping for fuel and rest. THEN this afternoon we had the folks heading east from Brodhead, Andrew King just popped in and out. Many others have gone back and forth. I will miss OSH but will have great visits here.

WE have recently implemented the Regional Representative group of the Foundation; these include Bill Berle, Robert Lees, Tom Pittman, Buell Powell, Jon Timlin, Dave Whitaker, & Bob Ollerton as advisor. These individuals will assist in running the Foundation. The Board of Directors met at the Alliance Fly-In on July 12th and agreed to this new direction. This was announced at the Fly-In later in the day.

Robert Lees is present on the field at OSH, he will handle the Forum and the meeting with the Small Aircraft Directorate and Robert has graciously agreed to do this along with Steve Krog of the Taylorcraft Owner’s Club. Joel Gehring and his father Bob attended the Fly-In at Alliance as a representative of the Owner’s Club.

They can report on the great time we had and the discussions and Old Factory Tour.
We learned from the meeting at Sun-n-Fun that we need to offer more technical tips and methods of restoration and less history. This is being done now. Keep the discussion forum going and God Bless All. Sorry Steve, Jerry, and all the members, I have only missed twice since 1973 …. See u next time Forrest TF#1.

Yes Robert, for having to pick up the total load on such short notice you did great! However, the TOC fell apart. I went to the Type Club tent three different times and found nothing! I mean nothing on two of the trips, no table, no NOTHING! One time I did find a couple of pics of T-Craft for sale laying on a red table runner but no one around. Very disappointed! Looking in the schedule I saw that the editor of the News letter (sorry but do not remember his name, Krog?) was at most every forum that involved anything with small aircraft. That was fine for him but left the table and Taylorcraft hanging.

That settles it then... we have to have Rob Lees running around being the Ambassador of Taylorcraftness on a roving mobile basis... and have Forrest Barber shackled permanently to the type club tent in leg irons ! (someone will have to come by and feed him beer and pretzels every few hours)

Thanks Rob for stepping up and trying to be everywhere at once, but alas it is not possible for one guy. My apologies for being unable to be there myself to help out.

Beer , pretzels? hmmmm great idea.... I have found that good people work great under pressure, Rob did save the day.
I have also found out that there is a lot more regional stuff to do in the future.
Only certain people make it to Sun-N-Fun, Columbia, Alliance , Oshkosh , etc.... it does get expensive. This week really cost me nothing and my family did need the help. I will be greeting folks going east tomorrow and the next two days. WE now have fuel again; and no ethanol.
The next biggy around here is the MERFI Fly-In only two Taylorcrafts last year. I imagine Steve & Sharon Krog were there at the Cub Club, & Luscombe Ass'n table right across from our usual spot.
They had never contacted the Foundation except to verify we would have the table(s) again. The following note should have been placed upon our table and read at the forumn:

                                Re: Taylorcraft to Oshkosh

The two times I stopped in the type club tent I found other Taylorcrafters hanging out at the Taylorcraft table, but alas without Forrest there, we didn't have a Taylorcraft banner, Foundation or Owner's Club membership literature, nor much of a presence. We did look a bit disorganized compared to the other clubs that had always-staffed tables, back issues of newsletters, reference materials for sale, and even logo hats and T-shirts for sale.

I can't remember how many times during my week at Oshkosh I asked newer Taylorcraft owners if they were on this discussion forum, or got the owner's club newsletter. I scribbled "vb.taylorcraft.org" and "www.taylorcraft.org.uk" on more than a few of my business cards for people. We do need a brochure or something for next year.

Let me add my kudos for Ambassador Robert Lees' leadership at Oshkosh. We were lucky to have him representing us in the meeting with the FAA, and he presented an excellent list of "Top Ten Taylorcraft Maintenance Tips" at the Taylorcraft forum, which you can download at www.taylorcraft.org.uk/topten.pps.
(Note especially his quaint Britishisms, such as "mouse" for "dog" (as in securing your tailwheel steering springs with safety wire) and "transparencies" for "windows" -- he does add some trans-Atlantic panache to the tribe!)
Last edited by Robert Lees; 08-07-2008, 06:35. Reason: change "pss" to "pps".
