    Re: adding the 3rd bungee

I have more than five years (according to the color bands which match the log entry) on my set of bungees. The airplane is up for annual and strut AD and I had planned to replace the bungees (3 on a side so I was surprised to see that 2 are normal) but where is the best place to get bungees that are "fresh" and what is a reasonable 'freshness'? I mean, can I tell the supplier that I want bungees less than a year old?

When is it required to replace them? Still no sag in almost six years but the three bungees probably explains it.

Replace them when they sag. I wouldn't change them until they do. Dave

        Re: adding the 3rd bungee

I thought the suggestion to use a third bungee was a swell idea right up to the point where I couldn't get it on over the other two. I employed the Tcraft-specific tool to no avail, amazed that the cord could pass through the small space between the tool and trunion as it came off, not to mention the resounding thump when it did so. After 3 tries and a little scarification of the cord threads, it seemed prudent to quit while I was ahead. Additional collateral damage noted was cracked paint on the bottom of the fuselage just aft of the bungee hole, presumably from one of the recoils. Good thing the dog wasn't laying down there.

Having figured on the fifteen minute version mentioned above, I wonder what I'm missing. The attempt was made with the plane sitting normally on its gear - should weight be taken off of it to make for less stretch?

I use L2 bungies, they are thicker and stronger. Tim

            Hi Mike,
I put a third one on and don't recall taking any special measures other that working the 3rd cord towards the center of the trunion as far as possible.

What brand is your tool? One of mine?

              Re: adding the 3rd bungee

It's one of the original Tcraft tools, according to the owner, who I borrowed it from. It has sleeves on each side to hold cord on until time to transfer to trunion, then are slid out of the way. Did I mention I tried using the regular size (9010HD) cord? Is that what you use, or a longer one?

Try using one 9010HD and one 9010HDX on each side. The 9010HDX is twice as strong as the 9010HD.

I used two 9010HDX on each side, and it is actually a little too stiff.

                  Mike,

I used a 9010HD but my tool does not leave a gap for it pull thru.

Its your tool that's the problem.

I agree - here's a picture, with one guard off and one on. With the right size plug in each end to eliminate the gap, I think it will work OK. Maybe later I'll even be brave enough to try it!

Use two people and tip the top over a bit to close gap on top prior to "flipping" cord off.
