  • adding the 3rd bungee

my bungees are soft after just over a year. The plane sits low altogether by maybe 1" and the left wing tip is lower than the right by about 7"

So.. after doing some searching on here I see that some of you add a 3rd bungee. I bought two new ones from AS&S but was wondering if it is tough to fit a 3rd bungee over the existing two?? I plan to remove the bungee fairings and seat sling like I did when I replaced the bungees a year ago. I'll be using my bungee tool that I got from Dave.

    tips???

    DJ,

I just added the third recently.

It is not as easy to install the 3rd because there is no pre-planned place for it.

You have to roll and slide it over the top of the two originals. I had no issues at the bottom.

In hind sight I wonder if I had wrapped or placed a small piece of plastic sheet over the first two if the sliding would have been a lot easier. Then I could have pulled it out afterwards.

The kind of sheet I am thinking of is something similar to that annoying bubble pack kind of plastic that stuff I buy comes packaged in and then you get the item out of. It would be flexible, thin and stand up under bungee pressure.

Get one of the newfangled thin plastic kitchen cutting mats. They're about .030 thick and slippery plastic. Should work like a charm, and set you back at least 99 cents.

Can't sleep so here I am. How about plastic grocery bag? Two layers, that would allow one layer to slide over the other and you can just leave what you do not get back out. A thought anyway.

The bag would tear out, need something stiffer. Tim

Try a piece of plastic like part of a quart oil can. My IA showed me how to open almost any hanger walk in door by just sliding through the door where it latches. George

For what it's worth, I've had 3 bungees on each side for over ten years. With one of those great bungee tools, getting the third one on over the top of the other two has been no problem for me. I prefer the system, actually. It offers a stiffer landing on bounces (ahem) plus I like the safety margin.

I've always rigged a #3 bungee,it takes some messing around to get it "piled" atop the others but worth it. Use whatever tool you think has the best "JU JU" but I like to pass a piece of cord through the course to even the tension through out lest it tend to be too tight at one trunion and sloppy at the other.Buy doing this it won't bite into the pile on the tight end,its work well for me. Note; if you get your fingers in it somehow, cussing will make your dog's hard to find later on, trust me on this.

The cord is good and beeswax will let them slide a bit.

just added the 3rd bungee this morning. Total time involved about 15 minutes.

so easy a caveman could do it. I didn't do any fancy tricks. no talcum powder, no plastic, just dry bungees. No issues.

It picked up the plane about a good 1.5" and it has a good firm feel to it. I think I like it.

                          Re: adding the 3rd bungee

All this talk about bungees deteriorating in one year makes me wonder. I tend to loose track of mine and on my last two planes it has been; put a pair on and forget it. No sag for several years. Makes me wonder if it is the humidity. It gets hot here, but it's a dry heat. (sorry )

Second thought, maybe not operating in really cold temperatures. Now that sounds more like it when I think about it. That is something I almost never have to do.

Its fair to bring up the point that I got the #3 bungee application from one Wally Olsen at Evergreen field in Vancover Washington. He operated two BC12D-65's that got used like rented mules (they were!) and belived it was the best way to "use" a T-craft.I got dual in both ships and got mine fit the same way soon. Safe to say Wally might have used T-crafts as hard as they could be used ,"Old 202" was his first one and is being rebuilt(damaged some years before he died) does anyone know how many hours on that airframe?
Derrick? do you rremember? I belive its way over 10K
