Engine Baffling (EBAY)

Could anyone shed some light on any specifics of the baffling auction number 360020707015? My project (Lifetime at my rate) is a 1945 BC12-D with a C-85. I have no usable baffling, and thought this might work. I just don't recall the 6 air tubes. what are they for? My plane was a basket of parts. Now I like to think of my parts as assemblies!

The two center tubes on the large rear baffle are "blast tubes" for cooling the magnetos I'm fairly sure. They are not standard but they are reasonably common for cooling the mags and the accessory case. However those tubes are a lot larger than any mag blast tube I've ever seen. They may have been hooked up to a SCAT tube for something else.

The two tubes on the front baffles are for cabin heat and carb heat that attach to the exhaust. Those are the only two standard "stock" Taylorcraft parts.

The two tubes on the outside edges of the large rear baffle are not stock and are not used for anything I am familiar with.

For $199 if you have no baffles with your project I suggest you buy them, plug up the four holes that are not standard, and live happily ever after.

the small baffle with the two holes in it is VERY important, it's the oil cooling baffle that is sandwiched between the crankcase and intake manifold. That one is a LOT nicer than most Taylorcraft oil baffles. Most of them are cracked, bent, stop-drilled ten times, etc.

Hi Greg , got your e-mail, YES buy that set. I would have no problem with almost twice that figure. Thanks Bill Ii did not look at them yet. Does he say they are for Taylorcraft B or D ( L2M) , either one could work for Greg.

Greg is another old friend of the Email list. I bought a lovely wing tank from him about eight years ago; it now resides inside the starbord wing of G-BRPX, which is why she sports a D-Day stripe on that wing.

The picture made me remember how upset I was with myself. At an airshow in Paso Robles Ca. many years ago my Taylorcraft was parked next to a DC 3 A college student was sketching the scene, almost like the picture. She asked for permission, showed me the finished sketch and I was too dumb to ask her to sell or give me a copy. Thanks for the memory.

We ALL get stupid every once in a while. For the longest time, Wag Aero sold a color print of a Taylorcraft flying over farm country, and I never bought one. Now I understand from a friend of mine that they don't sell them any more. Brie

Not to deflect thread, but speaking of DC-3's: anyone here from the Midwest, or otherwise, remember Ozark airlines? Had a fleet of 3's, flew St Louis thru Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee.

I used a set of baffling from the A65 on my 0-200 and C90 both of which worked out fine. I'm sure these will work for you . I was going to bid
on them myself because my baffling is a bit raddy but since you need it more
than mine I will obstain.

Good luck, and hold off for you final bid until 30 seconds before the end of the auction otherwise ebay ( being a sellers market only) will just bid you max so that others will outbid you . After all, they are in business to make money not find us a deal.

Use to watch them passing by as a kid playing baseball around Decatur, IL. Dad would drive us all out to the airport sometimes in the evenings to stand at the fence and watch the last one of the day land. The F27 was the first that I remember much of seeing though... Got the engine baffling at the 6 sec mark.
I really believe this completes my pile of parts.
The pile is much smaller now because many of them make up assemblies.
Just sounds better that way. Everything is covered and in silver.
Don’t tell Forrest that I bought the bungee cords, I know he says
“Buy bungee cords when you are close”

I started flying with a student that went on to his first job with Ozark back in the 60's. Old memories are great. I decided along time ago, to try to live long enough to have them, LOL! However there are people that know me that would argue that point.

Checked out the Ozark Airlines (ref. DC-3) site. Suspect they might like some of my pictures of their 3's operating thru Marion, Ill. in the mid 50's. Have to dig them out. Had no idea they were around until the 80's. Thanks for the reference.

You were flying for the line when I was a young child standing at the rail of the observation deck at the local airport watching DC-3s, Martin 202s, and Convair 220s taking off and landing, putting quarters into the machine that let me listen to the pilots and tower talking to each other.
The lines that flew through were Allegheny, Mohawk, Capitol, and Eastern. I watched you guys always knowing that ONE DAY, I would be like you.
THANK YOU for as a group, never doing anything to knock yourselves off the pedestal I set you upon the way professional athletes now do to the kids that almost worship them today.
Sorry if this is a little "sappy" but it is the way I felt. I sent away to United Airlines corperate offices, telling them how much I loved flying, and that, some day, I hoped to fly an airliner too.
Several weeks later, I recieved a very thick package that held a very encouraging letter, AND an 8X10 black and white photo of EVERY aircraft that was EVER in their livery from BEFORE they were UAL to the present time. They sent that to me in 1960. Brie
