  • A simple luncheon in deepest Oxfordshire

One of the nice things about flying small, quiet, slow-flying aeroplanes is that you can invite yourself to private strips only a stone throw from a suitable luncheon spot.

So happened today at a moment's notice, when Jonathan and Jono Jnr and I decided to meet up at a little strip in Oxfordshire, about half-way between our home bases.

Above: Jonathan landed before me, so I saw he was parked up when I joined low-level overhead. Small, tight circuits are of the order; it keeps the neighbourly noise footprint down.

Above: A lazy 400 yard walk saw us enjoying Pub food in the friendly local village. Toby wants to know when Daddy will buy him a Taylorcraft for his birthday present.

Above two photos: The obligatory ground shots before departure...

Above: ...and note the strip is only just as wide as the wingspan.

Such simple pleasures for we aviators. We owe our thanks to Frank for the use of his strip.

Looks like so much fun! Here it's cold, windy & snowing. No Tcraft flying today.

Thanks, Rob. Brings back pleasant memories of Biggleswade and local farm strip cook-outs. And of course that pub food. I hope I can make at least one more trip back there one of these days.

      Chet.

Thanks Rob. Global warming has abandoned us in this part of the world... It's just finally getting up to 0ºF at mid-day. The pub food looks great. (I'll ask what it is you have in the pints later...)

Chet, you get back over here! Ron Neale has retired this December just past, although he still shows his face occasionally.

          Lime & soda, Mike!
