  • Pre War Wing - Help and Parts needed

    Hello everyone,

Please see the message below from my brother-in-law who is restoring a pre-war T-craft at Penn Tech in Williamsport, PA. If anyone has any info please post it here or PM me and I will pass it along to him.

    Thanks,
    Brian

Can any one tell me the difference between a Prewar Deluxe Wing and a Prewar Standard Wing? I've been restoring a 1940 BL and the wings that I have are different. Also does any one have any salvageable prewar ribs available for sale?? The left wing I'm currently working on was in a Tornado back in the 1980's and is in bad shape.

    Thanks

      Barnstormers.com, search under Taylorcraft.

Greg Dart of Mayville, NY, has a pre-war left wing for sale, $1200.
It does not say if it is a 13 or 15 rib wing.

Phone numbers are 716-397-0790 and 716-753-2160.

I have a nice tool for repairing ribs, its made from visegrips and allows you to drill and cleco the rib repair material over the prewar ribs. PM me if you need a pic to make your own. Tim

This is correct, although the '45 wing is a bastard and has postwar leading edges and tip skin installed. Also the wing tip bow on a 15 rib wing is like the post war tip bows, not like the earlier bow. Also most DeLuxe wings have larger drag/antidrag wires, but the thread is the same. The wires are stepped.

                Tim,

How thick is the rib repair material? Are you using the purchased repair "strips". You are not setup to PM. Can you e-mail me a pic of the tool at "mike_cushway (at) trekbikes (dot) com"
