Hi Dave,
It looks like mine have been repaired once around the flange, looks like there is a small pinhole leak, just enough to be anoying and make a mess. It's also a leak around the area where the filler spout is welded to the tank.
If I go the repair route (I guesse a new tank is big $$) we will put light pressure in the tank 2psi and find all the leaks.
Hi Peter, yes these tanks are big bucks! I have pressure tested my tank by intalling a gasket and blank flange on it. Then get a large bucket and fill it with very hot water. Place the cap on the tank and submerge the oil tank in the bucket of hot water. The air inside the tank will expand and bubble out of any cracks. Much safer than trying to pressurize with air, no risk of blowing it up!

Safest way to test it is to stretch a toy balloon over the fill tube and "nut and bolt" a blank off plate over the case hole with a gasket. Drill a hole in the blank off plate for a car tire valve and seal with some bath tub caulk. You really only need a hand tire pump to fill the kidney tank and the balloon will pop long before you can get enough pressure to damage the tank.

Hint: A condom works much better than a balloon, but it is much harder to explain why you are buying it to your wife.(;f
A friend of mine kept a three pack in his Van in case of just such a problem. You just never know when you have a leaky oil or fuel tank.
I personally have a very low pressure guage from Goodyear "Inflatoplane" GA-33 test kit. .5 to 5 lbs pressure.

I have a Smoke Machine that is used in Automotive EVAP Diagnostics that you Can borrow,Just hook it up to the Breather line and see where the smoke comes out.It has a pressure regulator that has a Max pressure of 1.5 PSI and uses Baby oil for the Smoke.
Works Great

I'll keep that in mind, should have it flying again soon.
Vent up around Twichells today in the 150 lots of people out ice fishing, ice looks rough with a lot of tracks in frozen slush.
I paid 250 last summer to get mine brazed and if you get it repaired, have the guy weld on the supports like the O-200 tanks, then it wont crack anymore. Mine was cracked a total of 10" around the flange and filler neck. Tim
Hi Ron , have you noticied you were born on my Birthday a wee bit before 1942. Scorpios Know about Rubber airpalnes.
Ernie Stadvec at Essco wrote a book on them. Actually mine was the GA-33 and used "airmat" a rubberized stuff Goodyear came up with. Dick Ulm was the Test pilot.
