finished the inspection on N44338, ser#10138,
no problems found, it's ready to go back together and fly again.
For me the struts and attachment fitting was a waste of time, we knew the plane was clean and hangered, and has not been outside since it was redone in 1984.

I thank you for setting me right I missunderstud the Servis letter.
It did make any sence to have the drainhole enlarge to 1/4" to accomondate a borescope. Now the picture make sence as well.
Now I can paint and make it all nice looking again.:beerchug:
No rust or corrosion in this one and the original tail was NOT corroded only bent from the accident. All according to my A-I and the welder and recorded in the logbook.
    No corrocion in this one.
All I need now is: good wheather, gas money, and no crosswind.
Bore scope check dune, 04/15 no cracks or corrosion found!

    Len
Ps I used Dave Withaker's cover plate worked great! Thanks Dave.

Never on float to my knowledge.
Imported to BC according to DOT records (1951 if I remember right)
Spent most of it's time in southern Ontario Canada.
My logbook only goes back to 1963 64
No surface corrosion in the strutmount area.
The drain hole are only 1/16" No bore scope testing possible without enlargeing the hole. This mean removing the landing gear.
The drain holes where coverd with fabric.
All tubing in the area appers to be solid, sounds solid then taped on,
    no cracks found,
    The strut passed ultrasound testing
By Stavley Servises in Burlington Ontario
They do all material teating for Dowthy, a landing gears manafaturer.
   $600.00
Some minor pitting was found. One frontstrut is sealed the others are open.
The frontstrut are most likely not the original from 9628, but there is no notes in the logbok about any changes.
A tailclip from another aircraft was welded on her in 2001 after an accident.
The aircraft was flown on skies and landed in icy conditions and swung out of control. A pole stoppet the aircraft, it hit ahead of the tail and bent the fuselage. The condition of the original tail is not known to me at this time.
More to come as I am reserching that job. I know how did the work.
    He is at SAF.
The strut was sprayed with CRC 50 internaly, about a 1/4 can for each strut.
( Bad it runs out when the struts was installed agian and made mess on the floor)
Despite all what she flyes straight and hands off!!!!!!!
Back to work on her today !

    Hi Len,

There is no need to put the scope into the drain hole, merely to verify that it is not plugged up.

But there is a requirement to the boresope "behind" the fitting so you can see the inside and check for rust.

    Here is the paragraph;

    6. Using a "” flexible borescope carefully inspect the inner cavities of the fitting visible through the fore and aft ends of the fitting for signs of blistered paint, cracks or corrosion. Pay particular attention to the inner lug area between the two struts (see photo #3 & 4) (Reference AC 43.13-1B, Chapter 5, Section 2 for visual nondestructive inspection).

    Here is the SB for the pictures;

You probably did all this but the text in red made me think it might be possible that you didn't do the borescope of the fitting interior and therefore a comment might be helpful.

    Dave

c/w SB2007-002 on N29719, s/n 2566, BC12-65 and N29PA, s/n 2162, BC-65 this week. Media blasted, inspected, epoxy primed and poly top coated as per Service Bulletin. Also reinspected with borescope when finished to confirm coating coverage. All fittings looked good. Also all 8 lift struts pasted NDT per AD2008-04-09 per SB2007-001. Both aircraft are landplanes and are hangared.
