Well I am not going to waste my time on using a borescope, for 1800.00 I will replace mine and I am selling my prewar struts with a fresh xray...my drain holes are 3/32" so unless you are going to a surgical center, you will not find a comercial scope that small for less than 100K
I used a borescope on my L2 struts. I borrowed the instrument from an engine rebuilder paid him $35.00 and spent a couple of hours shinning it where I could. I thought it was a good idea and got useful information eventhough I could NOT get it into every little nook I wanted. For those unseen places I blew in high presure air over a clean cloth to see if rust flew out. Nothing like rust appeared just some oil fixed dust grains. So while I'm not subject to the AD/SB at least I satisfied my own mind and have renewed confidence in my struts... without taking them off of the plane and X-raying the buggers. I hope this helps. With regards; ED OBRIEN
I used a 1/4 inch borescope, found it interesting, no apparent rust. I cut a small extension mirror to a 1/4 width. Using a flashlight and with the struts removed I could see into the attachment. See attached picture
