Can someone please send me a few photos of the way the seat frame fits with all the music wire rods etc.. I'm building a new one for the clipwing (one that will handle me hanging from it during the negative G stuff) and I just want to make sure I have it right. Thanks a million- the forum sure is a help! I had the large wire going from the forward right to the aft left. I see why it wasn't fitting perfectly. My wires were worn a bit so I made new ones out of 3/16" stainless control cable.
My issue is that the stock frame isn't meant to handle negative G. If you look at how it handles load it is only good for positive G. I guess I should just get it going with a regular carb and do the inverted system later. It sure adds alot to the complexity.
If anyone thinks building a clipwing is a quick, easy deal think again! One change causes 10 others. I could have re-built 2 stock airplanes to this one clipwing.Eric Minnis

OK- thanks for all the replies and photos. I ended up getting out some of my old engineering books and doing it right. I actually muddled my way through running the numbers and came up with a design that should hold me at -5G with lots of reserve. Now that I think about it- it should be stronger negative than positive as the seat fabric carries the positive G. I will post some photos asap. It is a modification of the original design- used 3/16 stainless control cable, thicker SQUARE tubing, and welded fittings made of .090 4130 for the harness attach points.

Yeah- the factory set up is adequate for positive G but next time you are at your plane look at the center attach point where the forward and aft wires cross- again it is OK for positive G but if you load it in the negative direction the only thing holding you in is some 3/32 music wire that isn't even through welded. If your wires are worn at all then there really isn't much there. When I looked at mine it was worn about 1/4 the way through. (Kevin Mays was nice enough to send me a very nice seat frame to replace it)

e-mail any time. YES on Leisa-Marie we used 1/8th cable direct to the seat belts from the triangular gussets then I proofed it by ballasting the airplane to 1805 lbs. and then picking her up by the shop crane attached to the seat belt system, 190 x 2 x 5 g's...... that would be enough for me.
