Re: How do you use your taylorcraft?

It's good to have at least one gyro in a T-craft. If you have a gyro, there will be the accompaning venturi on the side of the aircraft. These venturis are an important source of homes for the larvae of mud dauber wasps. Those wasps also keep the gyro from making that annoying whirring sound after shut down.

Better make sure those wasps are yellow tagged. Else you will be stung when ramp checked, or your gyros will be eaten before you get at them.

I once had a boyfriend that told me "either the plane goes, or I do". He's gone, and not missed, I still fly the plane. Brie

I take bets on how many blades I have to pull it through before it wants to eat me.

I have always justified my aircraft ownership with this simple sentence:
                    "Because I want too !!"

Re: How do you use your taylorcraft?

I courted my wife in my Taylorcraft. I lived north of Portland, Oregon about 10 miles. She lived about 25 miles to the southwest, up on a mountain. To drive this distance usually took over an hour with traffic. At the time, all I had to drive was an old beat up Ford pickup and a Taylorcraft.

I would fly across town and meet her at a small paved strip near her house. We would usually get in the Taylorcraft and fly to somewhere that had a restaurant. Sometimes we would fly over to the Oregon coast and spend the day. I also flew her to the Evergreen Aviation Museum to see the Spruce Goose and up into the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound. I prepared a picnic and we flew to a private grass strip where you can swim or fish in the Lewis River.

It must of worked. She is now Mrs. Pearson. I wonder what her name would be if I had showed up in the old Ford.

Well, probably Mrs. Pearson. When I was dating my wife I drove a Ford Pinto and a Jeep CJ-5. Both of those vehicles I would like to have back now but at that time they were "not that great". My theory is that if the girl puts too much emphasis on your mode of transportation, she's not the right girl. Let's see, based on my physical looks I am not sure exactly what was the attraction...afraid to ask now in case she says it was the hair I used to have...

That's a great story....was the private strip Daybreak? We used to fly in there all the time (me and the missus).....it's a great place for a picnic lunch and a leisurely afternoon by the river.

Forrest and others who've talked to me on this thread without my reply -- Sorry, I got left on that migration issue and couldn't access the website for several weeks. I felt abandoned and alone -- kind of like my parents moving
away while I was at school one day and not leaving a forwarding address. Regarding Gyros that savory Greek Sandwich.
1.GEErows (hard G like in girl) is our local Colorado pronounciation
                              2. "Heroes" in Denver is a different sandwich all together more like a "poor boy sandwich" is in the South.
                              3. Gyros (pronounced JiRows) works in some towns. It's as local or regional a pronunciation issue as you're likely to come across anymore. There used to be dialect maps of the U.S. This divided the country into it's various regional accents. National Media Pronunications, travel, migration, and moving patterns have homogenized these dialects to
just good ol' American. That said "Crispy" is a particular one of a kind Kentucky/Tennesee/North Georgia only accent. Fred Thompson is from the same area but he's changed over to a Virginia accent. Kevin -- you are one of the few real deals left. Keep your accent my friend... you're rather eccletic and enjoyable to be around.
Anyway back to the topic... So the only way to track regionlisms in dialects is things like "Gyros" and it's various pronunciations and meanings. It's what us marketing guys dither about and love to discuss until our wives are bored to tears and make us leave the bar.
                              With regards; ED OBRIEN

Yes Vincent, it was Daybreak where we had the picnic. I would fly over to Twin Oaks to meet her. She lived up on Bald Peak Mountain there just west of Twin Oaks.
