    Re: New member here

Where are you? What is your project and what condition is it in? Who are you and what can we do to help?
All you have to do is ask (and tell). Welcome to the tribe. It's a great group!

      Hey Colby,
I was stuck in Folsom once, 5 to 10--Just Kidding, welcome aboard. What is that wicked looking black machine in your avatar?

I'm from Folsom Ca. and my project is currently at Eagles Nest in Ione Ca.. It's a 46' BC12-D that i picked up from Chico Ca. on 10/9/07. Hasn't flown in 15-20yrs from what I'm told. The plane is almost all complete as far as parts and looks to be fairly original from what I can tell, although I'm sure you guys can tell me for sure. The first two pics are from before I got it, the third is on 10/9/07 the other two are on 10/14/07 and I have several hundred pics from in between. And the Black machine next to the T-craft in my avatar is a Grumman F7F Tigercat

Wow, looks like a great project plane. I saw several parts that are hard to get (like an original, UN-CUT instrument panel! DON'T add extra holes!) We have a group of us working on replacement control wheel "balls" and badges fro the centers. Looks like you have all but one original instruments (the left side oil gauge isn't a U.S. Gauge, but that isn't a big deal, I accidently gave my original Oil Temp away when I thought I had an extra. I'll find another one of these days and the SW works. It just looks wrong.
I REALLY like the military markings on a BC-12-D. My 41 was a conscripted Sub Watcher in WW-II but it kept its civilian colors with a CAP logo on the fuselage. Does yours actually have a military history? Kind of fun to park with the heavy iron at air shows. Don't park behind them. They put out some NASTY prop wash!
Looking forward to sharing pictures and information with the west coast (I'm in Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay).

            Re: New member here

Being a '46 it's not likely it has any military history esp. with that early insignia. That OD does look good on the Tcraft, I'll have to look into that when recover time comes.

              Re: New member here

Being a post war, it should not have any military history. My '42 DeLuxe was impressed into the military right off the production line and left the factory in OD paint.

                  Re: New member here

No, it does not have any military history as far as i know. My uncle who i got it from had just applied that paint and decals while he was trying to sell it. I do not intend to keep the scheme, instead go for a more original civilian scheme. I really appreciate all the willingness to help a guy out, thank you. And the Tigercat is based out of Eagles Nest in the Ione Ca. area.

My plan right now is to restore it back to stock as close as possible and still be practical. In doing that I'll have quite a few questions for you all! Thanks for the info about your friend. I would like to find an original oil temp gauge and looking at my compass tonight, I was guessing it's original but was sure. I hope I can save it cause it's a pretty neat one.

                            Re: New member here

The compass is the wrong one (note the two extra lugs on the bottom) but the mount is original and those are really hard to find! There is a dome that goes over the front of the compass that is pretty hard to find too (anybody that has an extra dome or mount please let us know).
The compass type you have will look OK for years if the lower lugs are filed off but from the looks of it you would need to send it in for overhaul anyway so it probably isn't worth messing with.
I have photos of what you need if you want to PM me so you can keep your eyes open. Of the two I have for my planes I paid something like $400 for one and next to nothing for the other. They are lying around in hangars with people who think they are junk and others who think they are solid gold. I made up a mount for a regular Airpath and used it for years while waiting to overhaul the original ones (SOON!)
