      The 78-001 was a sore spot with me at time of drafting. I really cannot comment till I have completed my consultation with the FAA and the present factory. Let say this, that "drain hole" back in the tail post area was added in 1978, it had been on some previous ships and some did not have it. Remember folks, that aft hole is not able to drain anything on a seaplane......

        Forrest you posted on another thread that the tailpost hole was a new one to you. Which is it ? Dave

          *I generally answer with my knowledge of the ATC 696 , 699 & 700 since the factory should be doing the 1A9. That hole is a bit of a mystery, many are not drilled through ( maybe former seaplanes?) . WE are rewelding some things on a BC12D right now, a F-22 and one other BC12D . two have holes, one does not....... I think things got changed out in the field too many times. I still do not have a good definative answer.... that one picture I saw posted for the first answer had a hole that was enlarged, thus I had never seen one like that one.

            Its possible that the hole size in the picture I put up look bigger than real because I think I put one of those little plastic drain grommets around it.

              That is very possible, I ahve found the 1/8th (approx) hole in the rear of most Taylorcrafts around here. Some are not a through hole to anywhere. Yes yours was just too large to be factory.

                So I just re-read the strut AD and I see it specifies raw linseed as one of the preservatives, interesting.

                I checked in AC43.13-1b it never specifies raw or boiled, just linseed oil.

                Any thoughts on why raw might have been specified or perhaps its an oversight?

                The difference in the two is drying time.

                I can't imagine it makes any real diff to the corrosion protection it gives.
