F21 vs Supercub
Craig,
Capt Jon posted a couple picture of my planes up on his site.
Yeah, I'm impressed with the F21s performance. I've only flown in a Supercub once, but don't remember it being all that much better than the F21. Had a guy with me the other day who claimed to weigh 280 (though I'd say he was more like 300). He barely fit in the plane and had to work hard to stay off the yolk and pedals. The plane did amazingly well at that weight (about 1700#) We still got off in about 400-500 feet with a little bit of headwind. The stall speed was barely changed--about 47mph on the airspeed indicator. I get about 45 with just me.
Wondering if there's anyone out there who's flown both and could comment on the relative merits of each. I'm not suggesting that the F21 is pound for pound every bit of aircraft the Supercub is...but at a half to third the money, it seems like a great alternative, especially the ones which have a legal 1700# gross. I would think that if the new ones (T-Craft) ever roll off the line, they'll make a great bush plane alternative to the Supercub, especially with the 180hp engine. Wonder if there's many F21s currently earning their living up North.
If you look at the pics of N4417E, note the bottom cowling. The former owner, a retired machinist, fabricated it. It's a bit more aerodynamic than the stock F21 cowl. I think it's an improvement.
Cheers,
Brady
