I have never seen that ad before. Notice no lower windshield trim either. I like the 2 tone red as well

In 1945 the prototypes (2) of the BC-12-D Deluxe had what was described as two triangular skylights. I own one of them and have seen the other. It was TWO triangles with outer edges along the wing root and the apexes at the center of the crossed tubes in the "roof". The description was printed and I would bet the artist who did that ad messed up and just showed one triangle. I still have the original wood and metal parts (and some nasty looking "kinda" clear plastic. I plan to put it back like original. Gives great visibility in a turn and is smaller so the heat doesn't build up so bad in the cockpit. I was told by a factory old timer the wood parts were just too complex for production and they didn't do that type again after the first two.
More drawings to do. Going to be a while, got to get the 41 back in the air again before I dig into the 45 again.

My dad has a 41' BC12-65 with the two triagular skylights. I'll find a picture and post it.

Skylight in a 45, was Re: Easy to Fly....Easy to Buy....

Please shoot me any pictures you have of the skylight you have and I will try and get some of the parts I have. The "old timer" (wish i could remember his name) said they only did the two 45 prototypes but it is is a GREAT skylight. I saved all of the busted and torn up pieces so I could prove it was original and use them for patterns. The table saw blade they used was dull and almost all of the wood on my 45 had the same saw burns INCLUDING the sky light wood. I would really like to put one just like it on the 41 but don't want the fight with the feds. If we can show it was a fairly common option that might help. The two triangles give almost the same visibility in a turn as the huge one but don't fry your head on a sunny day so bad. I wanted to sneak some "FAA Approved" VELCRO in so I could put a little shade over it on those long hot days that I could just pull down when I get there. I can lift the wing on the long straight flight part.

It looks like the corners of your triangle opening are rounded and mine came to sharp points. I would love to see any additional shots when you get them. How about laying the drawing and/or paperwork down and seeing if you can take a digital photo? Not the "best" way, but fast and cheap. ;-)

I'll scan the paperwork and e-mail it if you like....there are no rounded corners...the picture is a poor one......the "triangles" are not triangles I guess...If you can envision a triangle with the top cut off. You'll see it better when I get better picture this weekend along with the paperwork...I'll be going to visit dad Saturday.

As i am just starting a recover on a "41" BC-12 I too would love to see your paper work. At this time I have not decided to go with the sky light but am thinking about it and reading everything here on doing it. Thanks, Larry
