  • Aileron Hinge Bolts

Does anyone know how to make sure that the aileron hinge bolts turn in the bushings and not the 1/16" thick "U" fitting on the aileron? Is there a special bolt, clip, something else??

    Thanks, Bob

Yes that pin is straight "knurled" so it is pressed into the hinge and then rotates in the bushing only....there is a washer on the other end before the cotter pin to keep it in place
I can send one for examination and possible manufacture again. the ones on the tail are the same method.

As I remember I saw the same pin at Tractor Supply when I was in OK City. Of course none of us would use a Tractor Supply part on our airplane but it is nice to have one in your pocket so when you find a "Real Airoplane Part" you will recognize it.

Thanks Forrest and Hank,...Forrest any chance you could just take picture with a ruler beside it? I just ordered a very nice hand knurler from Enco to make the pins for the tail. If the knurl on the aileron is only about 1/16 wide, that's going to be hard to make....may be able to grind the knurl wheel down???

        Thanks, Bob

Here's the rudder & elevator pin...the aileron ones are same diameter, but shorter, and I assume the knurl length would also be shorter.

For the ailerons, I used normal clevis pins AN394-27 (Ms20392-3C27), but put a flat on the head which engages in a spot-welded piece on my new brackets.

Along this same topic...where would I get the brass bushings that are pressed into the rudder/elevator?

Thanks Robert. I wish I would have thought about this earlier, I already had the hinges cad plated, so I don't want to weld them. Your "fix" is of course the best thing to do.

John, Univair carries these bushings, and they're pretty cheap!
