Re: custom doors ??
Hey Tim,
I searched STCs and don't see one.
Go for an alteration.
If you are just replacing a portion of the lower door skin with plexi I don't believe it is a major alteration at all and therefore requires only an log book entry.
See FAR43, Appendix A(a)(1) where major alterations are defined.
Talk with your IA about it.
Maybe I am thinking too small and you want really big glass.

Re: custom doors ??
Tim, that is a prewar door.
The bottom is normally covered with fabric.
It has been replaced by plexi.
The door's shape is different than the bc12d metal door and the door frame is different too because it contours the steel tube inside of our door frames.
It's a real door, it fits the frame. Not one of those lyin doors like in a bc12d where the door is bigger than the frame for looks.
Its prewar plane, notice below the horizontal stabilizer and above the taail wheel there is something blue. That is a little surface that rotates up and down few degrees for trim, I beleive the proper name for it is a fletner. There is no trim tab on the elevator.
That trim device is on prewar planes.

Tim, you'll have to try for a field approval and build them yourself... not that big of a deal...just make sure you get the approval BEFORE you start cutting your doors.
JHI'm so far behind, I think I'm ahead
