Re: Oval tubing in the landing gear.

Gentlemen I do not know how to do this from a certification stand point but if you go to the Dawn Patrol web page they have a link to a process they use to create struts there. www.kcdawnpatrol.com Then look on the right for "tubing press". It involves two pieces of C channel and a lot of bolts but makes a very nice looking oval shape in 6061-T6 Alum I think it could be utilzed for this with a little thought. Spotter

My inspector and mechanic will not allow a patch
Why not? If the repair is in accordance with AC43.13 then I don't see how he can refuse to sign off the repair.

Does te tie-strut have the drain hole in it, and has the tube been swilled out with tubeseal (or similar?)

They (FAA) can't refuse a repair if it is allowed no matter how much they don;t like it. The mechanic can refuse not to do the job though.

Most of the seamless 4130 tubing sold to industry is drawn right here where I live. If soeone out there would pay for the dies and take all the liability I am sure you can get any size made you want. George

Last i check it was a 1000 ft minimum. At $20-$30 per foot, that is a lot of money.

you can probably buy another gear easier and safer than what you guys are talking about. Does not the owner supplied part work here, if the owner buys new streamlined tubing and has the gear repaired with a suitable material. Also did I not read that that tubing was eventually changed because for the tendency to crack on the trailing edge? Just more unanswered questions to add to your mix.....Jim
