  • Oval tubing in the landing gear.

    HELP!
I am in need of the oval tubing used in the landing gear. Does anyone know where I can find it. If it is not avalable anymore can I use streamlined instead?
    Dillsburg aero work?
What is there adress and phone number. Do they have a website?

I did find them but they dont have it and it is not made any more.
Streamlined or can I flaten a round tube?

That part was formed from round tubing. Winston

Is there therefore an "approved" method of forming the shape? Or could a different streamlined tubing size be used?

Are you talking about the oval piece where the shock chords go or the streamline drag strut? The oval piece should be able to make in a large vise, the streamline you can still buy.

I hope I can find a shop what has a roller former of some sort what will flaten 6 1/2 feet of tubing.
              0.049 wall should do it.

If it's that long, Len, I'd suggest your gear is a bit splayed.

No 6 1/2 feet will make two parts. One is about 37" long and I belive in having some extra.

If it was me doing this, I'd be really concerned about cracking after "flattening" tubing like that.... I'd be looking for an x-ray outfit to check it out... they have enough trouble with the streamlined tubing, and that's why it's so expensive anymore.

You are speaking of the drag strut and it is strealine tubing which still can be purchased.

At the factory there was a very old heavy tool that would fit in a press but I would try it in a vice. Winston

How made the new gear and what did it cost?

Hello Len, I have landing gear that needs repair also with the streamline tubing. It seems that every spare gear that is for sale has the bottom of the strut rusted off or has been patched. Have you found a source for the tube yet? My inspector and mechanic will not allow a patch as this has been a recurring problem. Any thoughts on this? Arnold Wallace [email protected]
