  • BC 12 wings on L-2b

Does anyone know if a modified BC12 wing will fit an L-2B? Are the airfoils the same? Specifically I would like to replace the wood ribs leading & trailing edges with aluminum if and when my wings need rebuilding. I realize that the inboard trailing edges would have to be modified to accomodate the observation area but wouldn't make the wings lighter?

Well, BC12 wings already have metal ribs, leading edges, and trailing edges. Legally I doubt you could change the leading and trailing edges to metal on your L-2 wings. The only similarity between the 2 wings is the airfoil shape and planform of the wing. It would require doubling the the wings and strut attach points, changing the wing and strut attach brackets, changing the aileron control system, relocating the jury strut bracket, changing the fuel tank, changing the buttrib, and on, and on....

The other issue is that you would never get it legal, the wing will have to be a 15 rib wing, and would need the spars modified to F-19 configuration to make sure it can deal with the extra gross weight capability.
