You wouldn't have a number for Greg Lucas would you?

Thanks for the number, but I had already found him on the net from a search.
Quite a knowledgeable person but a little too expensive for the work I need
done. I've decided to just buy four new cylinders c/w high compression pistons and rings and see where that gets me. I expect it will net me about 10to 15 hp and I won't have to remove the engine. It is the cheapest and easiest route I can think of for now. Cleaning up some drag and a waxing
should also help the cruise speed. Anyway, lots of time as the plane is in the
        hanger until spring .

G Lucas talking to R Bradbury. Should we be expecting a REALLY good movie about this soon?

Thanks Norm, I'm trying to get a backlog of stuff cleaned up.
I'm needing some more power for my T on 1650 floats and was looking
at a few options. Anyway, I've decided just to plug in some brand new
cylinders and high compression pistons on my exsisting engine and try that
first. I'm thinking a boost of 15-20 HP just might do the trick along with some
drag reduction. We'll see next spring.

I thought you were in CA or have I just been out of the loop too long?

                  Re: IO-240 engine swap for a O-200 ??

Rob you have been out a long time. retired in 2004 , moved to Arkansas and found out i had prostate cancer, moved back to California for treatment. Moved back to Arkansas. Had a PSA test ( no, not Pacific Southwest Airlines) 15 months later and the Doc says im going to live. Thats if airplanes and motorcycles don't kill me first! So im building a hanger for the T and Quicksilver.
There was an interesting writeup by Continental a few years ago using a high time worn out engine with low commpression readings and a new engine. They found that the horsepower was pretty much the same across the board when at rated rpm. Something that i have found to be true in boat racing engines , short of a holed piston or a broken valve. the worn out ones just use more oil and idle rough. AND some of the worn out ones were faster.I made a 65 a 80 a few years ago and i found it was not worth the effort. Of course i depitched the prop to get the required RPM Interesting thing is when we intalled the depiched prop on a well worn stock A65 it seemed to work as well or better than the 80 and used less oil due mostly to the more modern pistons on the A65 i believe. I also helped a man change from a O200 t0 a 320 and that was WOW. NO replacement for Cubic inches. Im betting this is pretty much the way it is short of a totaly dead cyclinder. Hate to see you waste your money for so little in crease in performance, unless your current engine is really Shot.
GO for the Frank and be Happy. No one i know has too much power. Oh OK i had too much once but thats a different story.
Like i Said before , Nice to have you Back

Thanks for the advise Norm and glad you came through o.k.
Still think I will just throw on new cylinders with high compression
pistons, five angle valve job, flow match the cylinders, and port
polish the intake system. This will get me 15-20 extra HP for sure.
I finally talked with someone who has done this and backed up
the results on a dyno. A better profile cam and a proper balanced
exhaust could help a bit more but not worth the small gains for
splitting the engine, or the expence .
I know more displacement would be better, but I haven't the time to
make it all up. If I could have found a firewall forward O-290D2 or 320
I would have gone that way, but I cannot find it out there. I don't have
the time to make the mount, cowling and baffling required. I think 15-20
extra ponies and some clean up of drag will help in a big way .
