I remember when USAIR changed to USAIRWAYS. They spent a bajillion dollars repainting all the planes to add "ways".

They probably had a consulting firm come in and choose the new name.

No wonder they are all going broke!!

Hi Rob

I'm back in the USA flying my airplane form Stewart's Field (40I) in OH.

In a very bizarre way Swiss hired an artist to re-design the the fleet colors after the re-orginization. The ended up (only!) changing the dimensions of the white cross, the bars are now slightly narrower than the flag standard.

They went broke again after that, and now the cheques are drawn on Lufthansa.

The Airbus had the Swiss cross on the tail & winglets, so I assumed...

Swissair went bust more than 2 years ago. Surely you mean Swiss (Lufthansa).

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....2007,before I get out. The snowplows finally got to my road the day before this last storm. I had just enough time to re-supply food and firewood before I got snowed in again. Now, the road is twice as bad because the V-plow opening made for a sixteen-foot drift, instead of an eight.

Talk about cabin fever! The sky is a cloudless, beautiful blue and I'm still stuck! They say bald is beautiful. I hope whoever "they" are, they're right. I'm pulling mine out from frustration! Ed....do you have any connections in high places within the El Paso County Road Department? Can use all the help I can get...I LIKE having hair.

Rob gets home, eventually..

Here's the whole story of a simple two-flight trip from Las Vegas to Manchester, England. By the way, to all you US folks, thanks very much for letting me visit your lovely country again...I do like the high desert lands of Utah & Arizona. My last visit to these parts was late 2000, and I have missed them. We did some interesting hikes..the winter's the best time to visit this region by far.

We arrived at Las Vegas airport early enough Sunday morning to get bumped onto the earlier O'Hare flight (great, we thought...more time to ensure our connexion at O'Hare)

Well the flight was delayed for ninety minutes before we boarded due to wx at Chicago...and we spent an additional two hours on the tarmac at Vegas, pushed back from the gate, unable to get off for some nosh or to reshedule our onward flight.

As a result of this delay, we arrived in Chicago in the most glorious evening weather. Do you know, I even think we were the last so-called "delayed" flight in. Ted (or United, whatever) made absolutely no effort to ensure that onward arrangements were being made. Poor show, United Airlines.

We had a whole half-hour to change terminal at O'Hare, get a boarding pass and then to the gate (why we couldn't be given the onward flight boarding pass at LV is beyond me...this Star Alliance thing is cr@p). Needless to say, we didn't make it....the conversation goes something like this:

A polite Check-in lass: "But of course, Mr Lees, we can re-schedule you for the next BMI flight to Manchester"

Me: "When is that?"

"Why, this time tomorrow, of course!"

Talk about expletives!


But she did kindly get us on a Swissair flight to Zurich so we could get the Zurich - Manchester flight on the Greek airline Helvetica, arriving only 4 hours after the original BMI time of arrival. We had a rather nice meal on Swissair, with METAL CUTLERY, inclusive beers & wine, you US & UK airlines note. Actually, I could do Swissair again. Only 40 or so pax on the plane, being the new year flight, so we could lie down & get proper shut-eye.

We eventually got to Manchester, but our bags did not. So we drove home with a claim receipt in our grubby hands.

Just for Ed (and to return to the original thread title), here's what Denver looked like as we passed by at 39,000 feet (the city is the smudge in the middle). The whole of the flat eastern bit of Colorado was covered in a white blanket...quite stunning. I spent 6 months working there in the early eighties, so fond memories for me.

Beautiful sun here had a couple of fellows stop by with fuselages and such headed from Mass to Wis . had a good tour of the area and away they went. Got to fly this morning , did Bar-B-Q ribs this afternoon, ah life is Good , 60's on temps. YEAH NE Ohio Dec 30.

Gone are the Denver blizzards. Today is brilliant blue without cloud or wind. Today is a reward of rapturous view. Snow hanging from every car, tree, artifice, and grag. Snow pushed and piled into heaps that hide trucks and occasionally buildings. God's foretold Glory of heaven may not be prettier, nor as pristine as Denver is today.

As in the rest of life, our worry and harsh treatment has reward. Saturday in Denver. However, watchout. As this storm heads east, you'll find it amazingly furious and yet benevolent in the end. Yes, just like life.

Ed...If it helps any I am looking out my office window here in Columbia SC from the rear of my home.. sky clear blue expect high 60s today. BUT I have no plane to fly at the moment...... SOO its to the shop I go with the dream of flying again some day in the next year while you dream of flying again soon as well (you will be flying sooner ,,,again if that helps)

We now expect the Denver blizzard to continue through Sunday. SO, What the Lord Gives the Lord Takes Away: When I got up this morning we had another and additional 5 inches of snow on the ground. So the backyard dog-poo, which stands out against the pearly white snow, has gratefully disappeared. My neighbors I am sure approve. This doggie material will be ground up through a process of glaciation. Ground up to a fertilizer or better yet oil! In my backyard, on a much smaller scale, there are huge geologic forces. Grinding down dog-poo, maybe digging a glacial moraine like Rocky Mountain National Park. When this Blizzard thing is finally over. I may have an oil well AND tourist attraction under the ever increasing blanket of white. As you can tell, I have a lot of time on my hands and my imagination is the only thing allowed to run free.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but.........O'Hare sucks, but usually only when the snow is here in Illinois and it was 50 degrees today with maybe 55 tomorrow in central Illinois, about 200 miles south of Chicago. So you may luck out as long as the rest of the airline industry stays sane. We recently got stuck for six hours because the flight planning service went offline. Whatever happened to the old fashioned way?
