  • Denver Blizzard

From Snowy Denver CO: I can report that the blizzard has broken. We had about 26 inches of white stuff on the porch... which seems to be just about the average reported around the city. Yesterday we had 50MPH winds.
I thought about flying my T-Craft from a kite-string. I could've gotten airborne but was unsure how to land it.

I've got a cornich of wind-driven snow on the roof, off my front porch, better than 2 feet long. Anyone knocking on my door is likely to be buried in an avalanche. I love winter and now I'm off, to shovel. For those wanting pictures... watch CNN.
    With regards;

Isn't it amazing. My sons & I planned to snowmobile all next week.We can't because of no snow in Michigan, but I could trailer them to New Mexico or northern Texas & snowmobile.I hope to get some flying in instead.

I flew from Chicago to Las Vegas last night...solid cloud cover over the Rockies to quite an altitude (estimate to 20000 feet or so).

But nice & sunny here in town. I've not lost too much dosh (yet).

December 21st and no snow in Northern Ontario. Lake is still open and grass is green! Doesn't look like we'll be having our annual polar bear dip through the ice on boxing day.

                Rob,

I'm surprised you were able to escape from the state of Chicago, oops, City of Chicago in a timely manner. (I'm sure Mike understands how that works). I absolutely dread flying from O'Hare, especially in winter. Glad you had good weather to get out of there. Enjoy your stay!
                Cheers,
                Marty

sorry about the mispost about the up. This must be a record, no snow. I was in the AF there in the 60s/70s, and it always snowed in the up.

It is going to be a white christmas here in the Matanuska Valley. I can not remember the last one...? Fourteen inches of snow in the last couple of days and that will make a great base for more to come. The NWS says El Nino for us this year and so far they are on track. Fingers crossed!

I finally purchased a digital Camera so I will be posting some ski flying pictures in the near future.

                          Re: Denver Blizzard

We're about 300 miles north of Denver...and have no snow at all. Very, very unusual for this area. But we had the same thing last year, a brown Christmas followed by a little "springtime" snow. And the year before it was in the 50's and so dry we could go hiking in the Hills on Christmas day. Wierd.

Myself, I don't mind. But the ranchers and the ski lift operators are sure looking like haunted men.

Is this what Al Gore's climate change looks like?

                            Snow report from Denver:
Our snow, while deep, was actually pretty light. In this storm, 28 inches of snow translated to about 3/4 of an inch of water. In '82, we had 30 inches which translated into 2.5 inches of water. Meaning, this was not a wet snow and rather easy to shovel. It doesn't make good snow men, snow balls, or footing. It doesn't tamp-down, or stay put. It blows around like styrofoam packing beeds. Damndest stuff, this fluff.

The suns out and the neighbors too -- for me there's more shoveling to do! With regards; ED OBRIEN

                              Marty,

Yes, I understand. As much as I enjoy most things about visiting the city, it should be its own state! But then, I was born and raised downstate in your neck of the woods also... (Oh yea, long live Miegs Field too!)

I have to travel for work almost every week, and I still avoid O’Hare as much as possible because of weather delay problems. Even though the weather is about the same at RFD and MSN, they're my choices for commercial airports whenever I can make them work out!
