Hello All,
Can anyone tell me the original color used for the firewall paint on 1946 BC-12D?
Thanks

That is correct for the front, in fact a painted firewall was not allowed by the certification back then. On the back side there was a felt like material for sound deadening and it got sprayed the trim color sometimes depending upon date of manufacture.
I do not like paint on the engine side of the stainless firewall. During my restoration,I was tempted to do a "machined swirl" pattern, but eventually left it in the grey natural finish.
But I did get Airtex to make a "firewall pad" for the cabin side to my colour choice. Very nice job they did (and although it was about 1/2" too small all the way around) it was very good value at about $42 Photo
I thought mine was stainless too, but it was covered with zinc chromate. I stripped it and polished it. Later, to my amusement, I found it covered with a film of rust. I of course thought, well, maybe it's not stainless..
Any thoughts ?

The firewall and fuel tanks were made from a material called ternplate. They still use it for roofing or flashing or something. I beleive it has some sort of chemical coversion coating like galvenizing. I have seen several painted with the stits white epoxy primer and that looked nice.
