  • Looking for wings

Due to bird damage during storage my wings are beyond help. The rest of the plane took no damage but the mechanic says the wings are toast. I have all the materials for a full recover job. To get back in the air I need a set of recoverable wings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Looking for wings

You will get more response with a little more information. What year and model? How many ribs? Most important if you want to move them to your plane, where are you? Won't do much good for someone in Alaska to have a set if you are in Florida.
Lastly, how else could we help? Are you sure they are beyond repair? Are you wanting to keep her certified or want to go clip wing? Got any pictures of the damage? I have seen a LOT of Taylorcraft parts a mechanic said were beyond repair that were actually pretty easy to rebuild. Even a busted spar can be replaced.
Keep your chin up. It may not be as bad as you think, and if it is there are a bunch of people here who may be able to help.

Buddy - the mechanic may be saying that economically it's not worth the effort, but if you put in the time....... - MIke

        Re: Looking for wings

NOTHING we do on Taylorcrafts seems to be economically worth the effort (nothing I have done so far). We do it because it is worth it to US. I don't know of ANYBODY that ever got their money back on what they put into a Taylorcraft, and if that is anyones goal they are in the wrong place. Taylorcrafts give us something much more valuable than money and Mike H. is the poster boy for loving the Taylorcraft no matter how much he has to put into it (I would like to claim that I am pushing him for the title).
Let us see more details on what the damage is and where you are. If any group can get you in the air again it is this one. There is no such thing as an unrepairable Taylorcraft (or parts) as long as you have an ID plate, the paperwork and buckets of time or money.

          (blush)
Some folks use their disposable income to go to NYC once a month, take in a play and stay in a fancy hotel. They don't view it as an investment. Likewise, unless you buy very low, the Tcraft isn't an investment. In my case, it's an education.

The folks that own a boat go thru the same thing; we're both getting some psysic pleasure from what we're doing.

My wife has known where to find me for the last 30 years.

You can read that last one two ways.

look in the right hand corner, he is in OK. Why is the issue with the wings your mechanic says they are not rebuildable?
