Reklaw Texas Flyin

Is anyone going to Reklaw this year? It's next weekend Oct 27, 28, 29. I'm planning to arrive Friday afternoon in the TCraft. Depart probably Sunday morn. Here's an email I got from them.

I am planning on attending. I will be flying there along with a Piper Clipper and we should arrive Sat morning leaving Sunday morning sometime.

There is also a Viking that will be bringing most of our crud (mainly the cooler filled with Adult Beverages.....)

Seriously considering driving the Suburban with the wife and kids. The Tcraft is down right now for engine work/annual insp. Hope to see you there Tim and Richard.

Me and a buddy lined the baggage sling with a 30 gal garbage bag in the old 1941 deluxe I used to have and put almost two cases in it with ice,we put another case under our feet along with a tent,then strapped our sleeping bags one to each strut with our fishing poles rolled up inside our sleeping bags.An hour later we were wade fishing Slade Creek catching stripped bass and small mouth one after another.That was a great weekend.

Probably sometime friday and plan on staying till sunday. Just look for the F19 with all the dope flaking off.

Reklaw was great this year. We had to wait at our home drome for the cold front to blow through Friday morning before departing for Reklaw. Bumpy and slow the whole way. My ground speed was typically 65 mph. As slow as 55 mph at times. I planned a fuel stop at Pineville LA, but on final approach there I realized the crosswind on their only runway (36) was too great. So I diverted to Alexandria (who had a runway more aligned with the wind) for fuel and relief.

Left Reklaw late Saturday morning (earlier than expected because my daughter's cat died tragically) for home. Beautiful smooth air at 5500' Tailwind.

Tim,

Sorry I missed you! We left at 7am Saturday morning and arrived around 9am. Very smooth. Boy, you really can't see that place until you pass over it! I saw some other planes flying a pattern, so I joined in and didn't see the runway until I was on final!!!

I had fun and got to meet some great people. I made it out there with a ground speed averaging 130 mph with the climb prop and power pulled back to 2300 on the 0-200. Plenty of turbulence. I saw a few other Tcrafts there, but never could find the owners. That AN2 sure made some great smoke!

An 2 man are they UGLY and they are in need of aero dynaic clean up!
the do performthere task as buch plane well never the less.
One landed at the neighbores strip.They tok of and turn around rigth after take of and never exeded 45 mph.
Lightly loaded but it is load in just the plane.

I was standing in line for breakfast Sunday morning (real early) when a Pretty White with a red stripe Tcraft taxied out and took off (I think it was the first takeoff that morning). There was an older gentleman standing behind me with a cub hat on. He was looking amazed and asked, "was that a super cub??". I replied, "No, supercubs don't perform as well as that!"

That might have been my friend, Jesse, who I see there every year. I talked to him this weekend and took this picture of his TCraft (N96473).

I believe he is from Texas.

I'm sorry I missed meeting you guys. I really felt that I was leaving too early. Especially as I sat on the approach end of the runway waiting to depart. I'll bet that a dozen airplanes landed over me as I waited for a gap so I could depart. It sure is fun to go though.

We didn't make it.. had some other family stuff come up. Sounds like a great fly-in.

COWL FASTENERS
I have a question off topic. In the Red/White airplane photo Tim provided, I see that airplane has the same cowl fasteners as my airplane. They look like they're off an old trunk or heavy-duty suitcase. Not the most aerodynamic fasteners. I had always assumed they were added to my airplane sometime as a one-only mod. But now, seeing this picture, I am wondering if they could have been a factory installation. Does anyone know?

Heres a pic of my cowl fasteners. They are drilled for a safety clip (pin)
