  • Need Oil Pressure and Oil Temp Fittings for A-65

    You know that little numbered fitting screwed into the right crankcase with the AD for the oil pressure line? It's got that tiny little drilled aperture to keep all your oil from draining out in flight if you spring a leak. Well, we need to buy one. Where, dear friends?

    Also, we need the fitting between the oil screen and the oil temperature bulb at the accessory case. It's a diameter step-down, male on the oil screen side, female on the oil temperature bulb side. And I think it's pipe threads. Then we'll be close to firing up the rebuilt A-65 Continental, which I swear is more expensive to overhaul than an O-200.

    Hank Jarrett, I haven't forgotten about you. Hey, you know those dainty little hubcaps are so thin you can form them, push the ancient dents out of them with your fingers. I'm going to send you these, you play with them for a year, then let me play with them for a year, then you have them permanent. OK?

    That may be Bruce Bixler? Oil adapters, Keystone instruments in Lock Haven, Pa.. Oil pressure, I get as a Continential part, don't have # here at house.

      Thanks, Forrest, for the info. The part has a number on it and I'll get it off my BC12-D. The rebuilt A65-8 engine is going on a Bowers Fly Baby.

        If you still have the old cowling for the Lycoming previously installed on the FlyBaby I know someone that would be interested in purchasing it.

          Be careful with the oil temp adapter. It has to match the sender on the gauge. Some are flat, and some are tapered. And there's more than one taper, to boot!

            Gary, I'll ask the owner. He's using the nose-piece, which is fiberglas, but the rest of it, he might sell. He's fabricating a set of eyebrows, Cub-style.

              Hey Larry, good to hear from you again too. I'm still trying to keep WAY too many irons in the fire as usual but would love to mess with the wheel caps. There is a technique for those soft aluminum parts called "spooning" that takes the dents out great. When you "metal bump" dents in the soft stuff it tends to streach. Spooning (I actually use a big soup spoon) almost flows the aluminum, and you an get some really smooth work with it. I have a shrinking hammer too to remove the streached areas, but hate to use it. Metal working can be really relaxing (for the guy working the metal, the noise drives everybody else CRAZY!)
