  • T-cart colors

    Hi All

I'm antsy to choose the color of my T and I'm JUST starting the breakdown to restore her. Looked through the threads but "I" couldn't find anything on colors of the Ts.

    I have a '46 BC-12D.
    Looking to either:
    1. Restore to original factory color, trim and original panel
    or
    2. Paint to one of the colors in that year with original trim and original panel.

    Any help is appreciated.
If there is a thread I missed, just point me towards it.

    thanks
    Jerry

      Re: T-cart colors

Many of the first postwar models were metallic blue fuselage inside and outside, with silver wings and tail. The only ones I know of that had specific color combos were the Deluxe models.

Chet Peeks' The Taylorcraft Story has some information on that. I'll try and find it for you. Otherwise, I recommend that book as a must read for anyone with any interest in Taylorcrafts, especially owners.

I was thinking that Mr Peeks might have something like that in that great book of his. I'll need to dig out my copy and take a look. Thanks for the heads up.

Ditto on the must read/purchase of this book.
Here is a copy of it on ebay now as a buy it now for $24.95 (I'm not affiliated with this): http://cgi.ebay.com/THE-TAYLORCRAFT-...QQcmdZViewItem

Found a 1946 ad with a nice looking yellow and black T. Can't seem to get the program to direct it to the right page though. hmmmmm...... ???

            Re: T-cart colors

I have always been interested in finding out what the original colors and paint schemes were. I've seen some with the bottom half of the fuselage a different color from the top and that really looks good. Were they all that way? I would love to do mine up some day in the original scheme and colors but somehow I don't think those records exist. Hopefully I may be wrong.

I think that the ones that had the horizontal two tone fuselages were the deluxe models, at least that is what Mr. Peeks book leads me to believe.

The over and under (light over dark) with light wings were done on the pre war models. I have a ton of color layout info if I can find it. The "Deluxe" models (pre & post war) had the prettiest colors in my opinion.

                  Hank,

I am very interested in the factory colors as well. If you can find the layout info, I would appreciate a copy! Thanx.

                    Re: T-cart colors

I have a series of drawings and a list of colors that were available in my restoration documents box and I will look for them. The drawings were used in the newsletters (VA Carolinas and the national one) years ago. I did a lot of research on Taylorcraft Ivory, Nieuport Blue and Metallic Maroon (the colors on my two planes) and even got samples from different planes in different parts of the country to make sure the colors were right. I have lots of samples of the Maroon and Ivory. The Ivory being sold now by several manufacturers IS NOT what it looked like before and after the war, but one of the colors IS very close. It ISN'T Diana Cream!!
We need to get the scanning project going to get all the old newsletters on line. I have a nearly complete set and it would be great to archive them. What ever happened to that project?

The newsletters are a function of the Taylorcraft Owners Club , the Foundation has those older color schemes from the scanned brochure of Tom Baker's, I will toss it into the briefcase as I leave shortly for OSH.
We will announce the new newsletter format at the forumn it has been approved by the Board and now we can have more glossy reprint stuff. Go to mwo a bit then off to OSH see u all there Tues... ( hopefully)..
