    Alliance 2004

Alliance 2004 was a wonderful experience for our four aircraft, 7 humans, and one dog who participated in our little New England Taylorcraft Network adventure.

Great weather, great turnout, and most of all great hospitality from the Barber clan and all the others that provided their support. Many thanks to you all for providing us another event that will be burnt into our memories forever!

Three out of the four of our planes are safely back here in New England after the most perfect day of flying yesterday. Our forth ship is somewhere enroute to British Columbia.

Pictures and photos coming soon, but first we have to fly out to breakfast and visit an Ultralight flyin this morning. Got to go...................

I got home back to England this morning, after a very pleasant and enjoyable trip to the States for the Alliance 2004 fly-in and reunion.

I would like to thank Forrest and Patty (our hosts), their family, in-laws, and all their friends, whom I know all put in such a lot of effort to make the event such a great occasion, also Bruce, the President of the Taylorcraft Owners Club, for the great efforts that they all put in to make this fly-in such a success year after year.

The attached photo shows Forrest in his usual arms-on-chest relaxed pose and Bruce at the podium inviting questions and comment from the assembled Owners Club meeting on Saturday evening.

[In the background is Leisa-Marie, the Standard Category BC12D that Forrest knows from his younger years that has come home to roost; he gave us an exemplary display of its capabilities during the weekend.]

I look forward to next year.

I'm just hoping that I fly in again next year instead of doing a drive in. Had a great time and didn't get into trouble with the boss lady for spending all of the shirt money that I collected.

Still looking for an answer on what screws I should use for the LE aluminum, aileron coves, and TE stock. A part number for Spruce, Wickes, or Lowes Aircraft Supply would be real helpful. I want that thing back together!

                    Dave,
The factory back in the day used .016 for all of that but a lot of people are going with .020 on the leading edges of the wings.
Aircraft Spruce has prefabricated leading edges for the t-craft and by the time you buy enough material to make them the price is not much different. As for the trailing edges(T.E.),Aircraft Spruce also sells some T.E. stock,it is easy to use and cheap too but it's not near as strong as the original.I have a perfect set of T.E. that come from a project I had but it would probably cost more than they are worth to ship them.
                    Hope this helps.

                      Kevin,
I am using the aluminum LE stock from Spruce and picked up a pair of trailing edges from Forest. What I am looking for is the screw size. I am guessing #4 x 1/4" from what I pulled out but would like to know what should be in there.

                        Dave,
I used #4's on Crispy Critter,I got a little torque happy on a few here and there and had to go up a size(make a new hole where I could).Almost all of them where 1/4" but I did get a few slightly longer ones to use is a very few places where 1/4" just looked a little short.
Old Forrest is pretty handy sometimes ain't he??

                          Great Time in Alliance

This year was my first trip to the fly-in and I had a really great time. My cousin flew out with me and the trip and our stay was just terriffic. Enjoyed seeing my friends Brian and Ruth Ann Bell. We still have to figure out why Brian's plane seems faster than mine!! Ruth Ann's mom Connie was terriffic as she drove my cousin and I back and forth between our hotel and the airport too many times to count. Thanks again Connie!! We arrived on Saturday morning. Next year we'll have to come earlier as we missed the fly over of the factory and we would really enjoy camping as well rather than staying in the hotel. Our problem was not enough room to carry the gear we would need. I'd love to put in an F-19 interior some day.

By the time we got back to Somerset airport in NJ I had put 9.8 hours on the tach. This was really good for my plane as it really needed a good run and it ran terriffic.

I got the award for longest ownership. My father bought 95716 in December of 1964 and I made my first solo flight at 16 in June of 1967 so I guess we have a real long term relationship going here. Forrest also introduced my to Sandy Slifkin who test flew my plane off the production line on May 2, 1946. It was great talking to him!

It was a great time and I'm looking forward to coming out again next year. Thanks again!

At the Taylorcraft Rendezvous in Columbia, CA this year I saw a very nice alternative to the "F-19" interior on a BC-12. A large canvas box was constructed which hung from the tubing cross members. The canvas box was the approximate dimensions of the F-19 box.

No floor mods required. If I recall correctly, this aircraft did not have a head liner installed so there was easy access behind the seat.
